Brees continues on his denial path

New Orleans Saints* quarterback Drew Brees remains adamant that the NFL's bounty investigation has not proved money ever changed hands in a pay-to-injure scheme, something the league vehemently disagrees with.

"How can everybody think that when there's been no proof that's been put forth thus far?" he said. "There's been an investigation; there's been a lot of stuff put in the media as to what was going on. But is there any proof to back that up? No, there's not. Not yet."

The Saints* were apparently brazen enough to establish a bounty program that focused on, among other things, taking out key players on the opposition. They also were dumb enough to believe they could keep running it long after the league told them to shut it down.

That's the important point to remember here: It was the lying and the cover-up that ultimately did in the Saints*, not the program itself. Goodell dispatched his investigators to review roughly 18,000 documents that ultimately revealed the Saints*' operation. The first stage of suspensions came down on former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams (indefinite), head coach Sean Payton (one year), general manager Mickey Loomis (eight games) and assistant coach Joe Vitt (six games). The second stage hit Vilma (one year), Hargrove (eight games), Smith (four) and Fujita (three).

All those players have appealed to Goodell to reconsider his punishments because of lack of evidence. But their hopes are certainly compromised by the admissions of Payton, Loomis and Williams on the existence of the bounty program.

Don't understand Brees. He could be a real leader and admit things just went a little too far- even if he did not know about it before the story broke. (Not my take but would work for him) Instead, he seems to insist on being a bit of a prick.

He's got the Saints** FO by the balls and just throws as much fuel to the fire as possible lol. This is the real drew brees. Most here knew this all along, the NFL just wanted to paint him as a golden boy. Well now he is thumbing his nose at the league, and it makes me laugh. He likely knew about all this bounty stuff from the jump. There really is no way he could not have in some capacity or atleast overheard talk. Keep denying drew!
