How exactly is your defensive scheme going to work?

Recommended Posts

You might consider putting a little thought into the Bucs D. They've had a far bigger turnover than we have. OHH that's right, you'll be a Saints fan by week 3 anyway.

Before the draft

After the draft

That's funny. Where is Lone Buc? He should explain that.

How does that typically work in the 3-4? Wouldn't the rush come from the OLB/DE and the 3 down linemen? Could a blitzer be selected from the back LBs or DBs to provide additional pressure? For example, rushing one of the two MLBs or a CB/S?

IF they bring up a linebacker and put him in a three point stance you can do a number of things. You could have the other three D linemen move from their typical 2 gap positions (lined up over a man and reading the play to go either direction) to a one gap position (lined up between 2 players in the gap between them) to increase pressure. You can bring a linebacker, corner or safety on the blitz as well.

I have seen Dallas play against our rushing attack by putting 5 guys on the line. The two end guys play outside of the tackle forcing the play inside while the nose tackle plays over the center and the other 2 guys play in the gap between the guard and tackle.

There are lots of variations. Teams like Baltimore often put 6 or 7 guys on the line and drop out 2 or 3 depending on the down and distance. You never know which ones are coming out and which ones are blitzing so calling protections are very difficult.

Man this LBF hate is getting pathetic. The guy asks a question that we all want answered about our scheme this year and all that anyone can talk about is how he's a bucs fan and how he flip flops. Could've been a fantastic intellectual conversation, but no, of course name calling is more interesting.

75% of his posting is trolling. 20% is complaining about people complaining about his trolling. 5% is actual conversation. it's understandable.

Eh unnecessary imo. I really wanted to get into the nuances of our new system too :(.

What roles will be given to our D line? If our ends are busy with an outside pass rush, should our DT's be more spread out taking spaces with a bull rush? What if we had Kemo and Brayton? Wouldn't we have a huge rushing land left open with Brayton perhaps getting too pass rush happy and Kemo trying to take space on the other end? I just want this stuff actually discussed that's all.

a lot of that was already discussed but the truth is, no one is going to know for a while. at training camp is going to be the best time to see how things unfold but even then it is likely to be a work in progress.

it is going to be a new system that supposedly is going to fit the strengths of our players rather than forcing them to fit into the defense that meeks had in indy.

the only things that anyone knows for sure is that they are paying much more attention to fundamentals and technique than they are used to. we know that the new coaches are running a more boot camp type atmosphere than we have had. we know that they have been working on speed and emphasizing takeaways.

more than that is anyone's guess. how the defense will look we probably really won't know until philly comes to town.
