Who will be our number 3 WR?

At this point I think the number 3 wr, safety, number 2 TE, and number 2 cb are are there for the taking.I would not be opposed to bring in Plax not so much as the number 3 but in the absence of Shockey I think we need a big guy that will be good for 3rd down and red zone plays.

Steve Smith mentioned on NFL network we should hold out a bit to see if one of the others will develop and based on what he hears we are not interested in Plax at this point but did not dismiss that an injury could change that so it appears it will be a wait and see on both TE and the number 3 wr.

I'd say Gettis but given the attention to the WR position, I don't think that Rivera has a lot of faith in Gettis ability to be productive for the entire year, unless of course he's just being proactive. I haven't head really anything about Gettis coming out of OTA's either. My thinking is that Gettis isn't ready, much like Davis and everyone knows that we've already found his replacement. I like the measurables of Bryant: 6'5" 229lbs 4.45 40

My final answer would be Gettis if ready, if not Pilares would start and it would probably rotate till we find the right fit.

Smitty. He's our best Slot/Y/#3WR. If healthy and able to step up Gettis should be our Flanker/Z/#1WR. He has the ideal size and speed for it at least. LaFell is the Split End/X/Posession/#2WR. Pilares will either be the Starting Y or the backup Y depending on where Smith is playing. Adams can play the Y or Z.

The spot we are the most thin at is the X. Gettis could play the X but it's not really ideal. Tutu would probably be the primary backup at this point and for me that's not a great option.

No matter who is playing what position, X Y or Z, Smith will be the first read from Cam. After that it will depend on the play and who's open.
