JR a tight wad?

If we can't re-sign the Beast he will likely take money somewhere when his contract is up and Kuechly will probably take his spot. Hope we can keep both.

Beason just signed a 6 yr extension last offseason. He won't be a FA until 2017. He isn't a concern.

If Luke is what he projects to be....MLB spot will be his soon

Am so very tired of people thinking that JR is cheap!!!! We spent 12 mil to realese a QB that was shot and that was for the Panthers to get better. Then he cut a few never waz players and Observer crusified him for cheap and convinced a whole team that he was and it lives on and it makes me madddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If ytou knew any thing don't see how you could ask this question put it to rest He isn't He wasn't and He never will be cheap.!end

God this argument numbs my skull for two reasons people are morons:

1. Jerry was dirst cheap in 2010, there is no doubt about that. Some could argue it started in 09 (not resigning Fox because of the extra money. That is what Jerry was critisized for, what he apologized in a letter for...putting buisness first. He deserved every bit of the shitstorm he got. It still annoys me the worst season we have ever had was because of it. On the other hand...

2. Jerry is NOT a cheap owner. He is known for putting down the money, and decent money for players. Anyone who calls him a cheap owner is an idiot whose only information (from media) is from when JR was obvious in pinching pennies in 2010.

He was prepping us for the lockout. We also had no idea what the salary cap was going to look like following it and every FA signed that offseason was GROSSLY overpaid (wayyyy more than the ones this offseason) due to their being no cap.

One thing I do like is all those guys listed on the forbes list proves that most of their contracts were front loaded. Meaning we are going to have that talent still under contract and for cheap when its time for cam's big day.

I think my biggest concern with Jerry is historically when he does spend money it doesn't work out for the best. See Sean Gilbert, Reggie White, Chuck Smith, Deangelo Williams, Mike Wahle, Bad Jake, and Julius Peppers. The Panthers have done really well with mid price gems like Marlon McCree, Chris Draft, Greg Favors, Brenston Buckner, and Ricky Proehl.

Hopefully our most recent big money contracts work out but it made me a little mad when we were snug against the cap with a team that was similar to 2010.

They are not front-loaded in any way. Even if you pay all the bonus money up front, it always gets spread out over the life of the deal.

Front-loaded deals have higher salaries in the first years of the deal and lower salaries in the last years.

Our players are on the list due to large bonuses, not front-weighted salaries.

You need to understand how the cap hit is calculated.

Take the signing bonus and divide it by the number of years on the contract. Add that number to each year's salary.

CJ's contract is in no way front-loaded. Nor is DWill's, nor Beason's. Paying a lot of money up front affects JR's cash flow, but it does not make the contract front-loaded.
