One Week After The Draft, Still No Interest In Peppers

Peppers is past his prime and not worth the money he wants..with that being said maybe Jerry Jones wants him..heh

considering he is coming off a career high in sacks giving what appeared to be less than 100% effort every down.....I don't think there is anything pointing to him being past his physical prime. You can knock Pep if you want but I don't think there is much to stand on going that angle.

I don't think they were planning to sign a boatload of FA whether Pep is in the fold or not, but my concern with being up against the cap is injury replacement money for guys who may get hurt during the year. I think there's enough cap now to get the rooks signed and that's about it. Of course guys getting cut will alter that some I am sure.

I don't think we plan to do anything with Peppers but play him when he shows up. Unless we get a slew of injuries or other issues we will not worry about the cap space as we seem to have largely signed the guys we are going to bring into camp. If we do move Peppers we will likely bring in a few more guys or due to injury we might do the same. Still think we have enough to do what we need. Wouldn't be surprised if Hurney has also talked to a few guys who would restructure if we need the money. Smitty comes to mind right off the bat.

why try when you know that the team has no intention of letting him go? (unless, of course, they get a couple 1st rounders or some other equally sweet deal)

other teams know that the panthers aren't messing around with this one. they have set the price high enough that very few are going to come knocking and that is done by design. they want him here strongly enough that nobody is going to willingly bang their head against a wall.

anyway, the panthers wouldn't be getting the calls anyway, not that they would say they were getting calls...that's up for carey to do. have teams been contacting him and has he been trying to shop peppers around? NO ONE is saying anything. there is no smoke coming from anywhere. no "league sources" are saying anything. the only signs of life have been speculations from reporters trying to think of possible scenarios.

panthers (coaches and players alike) have been talking like he is going to be in for training camp. most likely that is going to be what happens and the panthers are most happy about it because that is what they wanted all along.

But wouldn't you think at least one team would throw an offer out there just to see what happens?

I know that technically the Panthers have an opportunity to match the offer or get two first round picks, so maybe this is the danger of just throwing an offer out... the Panthers could say "okay" and take two of your first round picks? Under this scenario, it's shocking that Peppers doesn't just sign his tender and inform the Panthers that he will sit out this season if he is not traded.

Not signing the tender and getting with the team until September will only hurt him, because it will take half the season to get up to speed with the new defense. So good luck getting that big contract next year Pep. He is hurting the Panthers in money only. But he is hurting his image and his reputation by holding out until Sept.

Why do some of you think he'll show up for camp? Like the article says, he doesn't have to. He works out on his own, he obviously thinks he's good enough to just show up and play, etc. You think he'll be there because that's the "right thing to do?". No way.

There's also no way we give him 20m next season.

This is all why I made that poll that asked if you thought he'd be there for game one. Now I actually think he will, and that'll be the first time we'll see him since the Arizona game.

With a new scheme being installed he better or even the Rookies will be ahead of him.

who would the "one team" throw an offer to?

Hey guys, long time reader, first time poster... Just gotta say, peppers is going nowhere. The front office loves him and have put alot of effort into his development. I don't know if he will be here by training camp, but he will be on a panther... and I am glad he will. There is no one out there that will make an impact like him, even with 17mil to spend. I wouldn't be surprised if they offer him the tender again next year too, especially if there is no cap.
