Plaxico coming to Charlotte?

I'd much rather the team resign Shockey for a year than bring this dude in. He's been fishing for a team to notice him all Spring.

he won't be a panther so the whole thing is a bit of a moot discussion.

There is zero chance and still people are going to bitch about not bringing him in.

I really hope the front office is considering this. Someone mentioned how Cams throws can sometimes sail on him. Well, Plax would be perfect for that problem. Give Cam and this O as many weapons as possible. Plus, it can be a 1 yr type deal, and in that year we allow Gettis to get back to form slowly.

As for Shockey; hopefully that ship has sailed. Don't want him back, due to it being hard for him to get any separation out there any more.

For once in a long time since I have been a fan, I just think we are setting pretty good where we are. So Im on the fence about Plax. Dont really care either way. I am excited to see how this season turns out with or without any person that is not on the team currently.

We don't have to sign him to a multi-year contract. This is a 1 year deal to see how he fits in the system and to give time for Gettis to recover and our other receivers to emerge, whoever that will be. Bringing in Plaxico won't retard the development of other guys, we will be running plenty of 3 wide and even 4 wide sets this year. It is giving Cam more weapons and proven guys who have delivered under pressure. As for him being too old, he was productive last year for the Jets and would be much better in our system. He is fine being a 2nd or 3rd option and would be reasonably priced. Younger guys wants longer term contracts and more guaranteed money, Plaxico wants to play here and if he takes a hometown discount, it would be a smart move IMO. With that said then, I suspect we won't do it........................

All of that may be true and yet offense really wasn't the problem last year. There were some times that the offense sputtered a bit especially in the second half of some games, but it got better towards the end of the season. Defense was the major problem. And if we did have any problems on offense, they were usually with turnovers (early in the season anyway) and along the offensive line. If we spend money on free agents, even relatively cheap ones, I would prefer they be on the defensive side. And if we spend money on offense, it should be on the oline, just in case Otah is unable to go.

Actually, I would prefer we bring in a fg kicker. That would probably help us more than any wr we might be able to sign. :)

Fwiw, I doubt we bring any free big free agents, so we will have to hope that our draft picks and players getting healthy will be enough.

Not reading 8 pages. My two cents: bring him in on a one-year deal as our #2. Let LaFell and Gettis be 3/4 until they're ready to be our #1 and #2 in a couple years. They're young. No harm there. Let Adams do PR and Pilares do KR. Eventually they'll fight to be #3. No harm there. The Giants won the SB with Nicks, Manningham, and Cruz. It would only help to have Smith, Plax, Gettis/LaFell, and hell even Olsen. Insane offense.

dunno? baggage? effect on the lockerroom? not the kind of presence you want when things get tough? causes too many distractions? bad influence on players? hurt player development (and not just because of lost PT).

Plax is not that bad of a locker room cancer. You must have him confused with someone else. And if Lafell and the other WR can't handle competition, then clearly there is no need the Panthers wasting time of them either.

The thing is, if you don't keep improving the offense, defenses will catch up. Just because the offense was good last year means nothing for this year. The Panthers have to improve on both sides of the ball, not just defense.

not that bad of a lockerroom cancer? a mild cancer? skin cancer? lol

why have any kind of cancer at all?

no.....i don't have him confused with anyone else.

he's not worth the bother.

in fact he's not worth the bother of any more discussion. he won't be here.

I don't get the mentality of some so called fans on this board, who always are negative and have comments against the Pathers bringing in some player X who could just possibly be that missing piece that gets us over the top.

Plaxico's baggage is behind him at this point in his career, the guy made a mistake and paid for it and has learned from it, he wasn't a malcontent teammate with the Jets last season, hell Steve Smith "my favorite player of alltime" actions in the past have been more detrimental to a teams chemistry than anything Plaxico has ever done, Steve Smith produces on the field though and so has Plaxico in his career.

Anybody with a football IQ will see a tall legitimate Red Zone threat is the only thing this potent offense is missing Plaxico would be taylored made for that, no player, no person is 100% bad or good, you're not going to be able to field a competitive football team with 53 "Saints**" no pun intended.

I bet the same group of folks who don't want a Plaxico calibur of player to sign with us, also didn't want the Panthers to draft Newton beacuse of a laptop, wanted to trade Steve Smith, etc.. etc.. simply put these people if they had their way would have the Panthers fighting for last place in the NFC South indefinitely, as long as their piece of mind of fielding 53 choir boys is kept in tack.

You sure about that?

Might wanna do some research (starting with the domestic violence complaints and subsequent restraining orders against him).

Freddie Mitchell caught 4th and 26.

Let's be real here. Burress is dumb, mega-dumb, A lot of his issues have arisen out of that stupidity (not having a permit for his gun, as an example).

He is a magnet for trouble, and not worth the effort it would take to babysit him.

I wouldn't want Burress even if you put a gun to my leg.

I get where you are coming from but people do change and jail has a way of making people think twice. Shockey was not a saint in his younger days either and he fit in just fine.

    • his height, size and arm will forever cause problems and limitations...that is what it is.  I think to a degree, the law of averages is just coming into play a bit with him.  So as he plays more and more, you just flat out get the decent days mixed in too.  Which is just going to happen.
    • Good point. He's definitely better in 10-15 yards. I think that's his biggest improvement. But he wasn't 3-10 +15, he was 3-7, with at least one drop (minor but still). And with multiple passes at 14 yards completed. This passing chart doesn't look like at By one, lol. He threw more "deep" passes than Mahomes (NOT comparing him to Mahomes in a skill way lol), or at least more beyind 10 yards.
    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
