Plaxico coming to Charlotte?

Take 89 out of our receiving corps and we have Lafell, Gettis, Adams, Pilares, Armanti( or equivalent scrub). That line up will strike fear into the league's DC's. If injury were to take Smith out our playoff chances are severely limited. So yes, we could use Plax.

He's extremely tempting to bring in, if only for a redzone target, but every snap he gets in the game and every rep he gets in practice will be one snap and one rep that a young WR prospect isn't getting. Our franchise QB just turned 23. Plaxico is about to turn 34.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Get real bro.

Lafell is way more clutch? I like Lafell too and root for him every sunday but cmon. You're getting over yourself.

I dont get why fans just cant be real. Just bc a player is on your favorite team doesnt mean hes the best.

As good as Cam was last year and with so much weapons in Smitty, Olsen, Shockey, Stew, and Dwill, Lafell shouldve had a better season last year. And dont blame it on the new coaches or new system.

Plaxico is a proven Wr in the league. Plaxico didnt have a great season due to poor QB play from Sanchez, and he still hauled in 8 tds compare to Lafell 3.

Lafell at times showed some potential but most of the season hes invisible on the field. Dont call Lafell better than Plax only bc he caught an awesome pass from Cam that went for 91yards. And then what happen later in the game, we all never saw Lafell after that amazing play against a poor Bucs secondary. The play was pretty much all Cam. Dont get too excited about Lafell this season. I predict a 40 rec, 600-700 yds, no more than 5 tds season for Lafell.

Lafell was clutch several times last season. He was also the number 3 option behind Naanee. He will put up bigger stats this year. Lets not be modest for the sake of being "real" and give some credit where it's due. He had more great plays along with that 91 yard TD last year.

As for the topic at hand, I wouldn't have a problem with Plaxico on the team. He's not a trouble maker. That whole gun deal is terribly overblown. It was an accident.

Lafell is good, could end up being great when it comes to jump ball situations. We also still have Smitty, who is one of the best at catching the jump ball. And we still have Gettis to consider (withholding pre-season play before a real determination to be made). For those reasons, we don't bring in Plax. If we didn't have Lafell, I'd be a little pissed if we didn't at least fly him in for a meeting. However, that is not the case.

Judging from what I saw in the open practice Gettis is a long way from even getting back to what he was. He looked worse than Armanti, Tutu, Pilares, and Adams. He has all summer to get recuperated but I sure as hell don't wouldn't want to count on it. Based on what we've seen so far, unless you're confident in Armanti or Tutu as 3rd WR you should be asking to work out Plax and see what he's got. We can definitely use him.

We either need to resign Shockey or go after another big TE/WR. We have a pretty small receiving corp aside from Greg Olsen and I think that a big redzone target like Burress would be really helpful. He's never been a bad teammate and if he can stay healthy he is one of the best 3rd down/red zone receivers in the league.

I would prefer we develope what we have. We already have two veterans in Olsen and Smith, so why bring in someone that is a couple of years away from retirement? If we do bring in someone else, I would prefer it be someone a little younger.

We don't have to sign him to a multi-year contract. This is a 1 year deal to see how he fits in the system and to give time for Gettis to recover and our other receivers to emerge, whoever that will be. Bringing in Plaxico won't retard the development of other guys, we will be running plenty of 3 wide and even 4 wide sets this year. It is giving Cam more weapons and proven guys who have delivered under pressure. As for him being too old, he was productive last year for the Jets and would be much better in our system. He is fine being a 2nd or 3rd option and would be reasonably priced. Younger guys wants longer term contracts and more guaranteed money, Plaxico wants to play here and if he takes a hometown discount, it would be a smart move IMO. With that said then, I suspect we won't do it........................

I don't see why we couldn't use him? He is an easy 5 yards every play(if needed) and not only that, it also takes some of the focus of smitty. With a great QB and 2 vet WR i think it will cause destruction for other teams defences. DC's will be startled to go up against our offence.

I VOTE TO BRING HIM TO CAROLINA!!

    • his height, size and arm will forever cause problems and limitations...that is what it is.  I think to a degree, the law of averages is just coming into play a bit with him.  So as he plays more and more, you just flat out get the decent days mixed in too.  Which is just going to happen.
    • Good point. He's definitely better in 10-15 yards. I think that's his biggest improvement. But he wasn't 3-10 +15, he was 3-7, with at least one drop (minor but still). And with multiple passes at 14 yards completed. This passing chart doesn't look like at By one, lol. He threw more "deep" passes than Mahomes (NOT comparing him to Mahomes in a skill way lol), or at least more beyind 10 yards.
    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
