Plaxico coming to Charlotte?

So far this offseason, the Panthers have...

...shown no interest in Randy Moss

...shown no interest in Terrell Owens

...shown no interest in Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson

Heck, they didn't even cast an eye toward Vincent Jackson, someone who was younger - and at this point, probably better - than all those guys and had history with both Rivera and Chudzinski.

In the light of all that, I'm not sure what makes people think they'll have any interest in Plaxico Burress.

This thread reminds me of right before we signed Keyshawn. Not that I think we're gonna sign Plaxico (though I'd be cool with it if we did.) you'd think people would get tired of speaking for the front office as far as who they would and wouldn't ever sign.

After a while it's fairly easy to pick up on their tendencies.

I don't think it would be awful, I just don't see the need or likelihood of it. If he became a Panther I would look a the bright side and certainly pull for him and for it to be the best move ever....I just don't see any of that happening.

That's a poor example considering we couldn't have afforded him, but I see where you are coming from.

As has been mentioned, offense wasn't the weak spot last year, and we have young receivers like LaFell who are quite possibly primed to take the next step.

So red zone passing wasn't a problem last year? I do wonder what it is like to wear rose colored glasses 24/7.

Plax throughout his career has been a great red zone WR. In fact, he would help this offense more than S. Smith in this area.

We had a rookie QB and still managed to be 7th in the league in the red zone:

Hurney has been stubborn for years about the WR position.

We have one very good but aging receiver whom we majorly lucked out on for a mere 3rd round pick. Who else since? Keary colbert, drew carter dwayne jarrett, armanti edwards..

Homers on this board just ride the lafell and gettis train but never see the bigger picture.

Steve smith will only be around a few more years. We've wasted enough of his prime surrounding him with inadequate help. In no way am I saying burress is that, I'm speaking in general.

Actually it is that simple, and for the record the naysayers on this board aren't the only ones doubting him.

Plaxico's been peddling his services to pretty much anyone that would listen, and nobody's biting. That includes the team he won his Super Bowl ring with. The Giants balked at the idea of having a reunion with him.

Heck, the Panthers (and many others) could have taken a shot with Randy Moss last season, but they didn't. And that was at a time when our receiver situation was arguably an even bigger enigma than it is now. Moss was available for a look again this offseason, but as before, the Panthers showed no interest.

So why, now, should they take an interest in Burress?

Why shouldn't they? What multiple Super Bowls have the Panthers won? What's the point in only signing practice squad players?

The 49ers signed Moss what do the Panthers organization know that the 49ers don't? The Patriots signed Ocho last season and now the Dolphins have followed suit, what's so horrific about signing a proven veteran for the cheap when you're going into a promising season with alot of unproven players, Plaxico would instantly be a upgrade Red Zone target for Newton, if we're really about winning championships we should take chances and make moves that championship organization do all the time.

Fact is we're going to have to overpower teams offensively if we are going to be successful, we still have alot of young unproven talent on defense, and as good as Beason is and as good as rookie Kuechly could be, those two players alone aren't going to instantly make this a top defense, so we are banking on alot of ifs and hopes on that side of the ball.

So instead of asking why, ask why not?

Oh, I guess you missed the part where I said passing. Of course the Panthers improved in the red zone. Their running game was greatly improved. Even Cam said many times he needed to improve passing the ball in the redzone. But I guess it's not an issue for you smart guys on this forum. I'm sure they will continue to do great by having a sub par red zone passing game.
