Bobcats hire Mike Dunlap as HC

The NBA is not the Big East and we weren't looking for an interim/assistant. We needed a HEAD COACH. And if they hadn't had experience as one, they should've at least had a good amount of experience on the pro level. He doesn't.

But, hey... At least MJ gets to save a few more dollars while we continue to suck.

Anyone who thought MJ would actually invest in the brand should take this into consideration as well. Dude is not looking to spend anymore money than he has to.

Look at how he "redesigned" the logo... That's MJ's version of "turning the page." He keeps the same exact logo and just went into photoshop and uses the paint bucket tool and changes the colors. I'll admit, the less orange the better, but still... It's cheap.

I hope many of us are wrong about this hire, but a career college assistant becoming an NBA head coach probably has never happened before, and if it did, I'm willing to bet the results weren't very good.

Actually he's been a head coach. Granted, it was at the Division II level, where he won 2 National Championships: http://www.newsobserver.com/2012/06/18/2145937/st-johns-assistant-mike-dunlap.html

This could be true. It also could be true that out of everyone they interviewed they believed in his plan for the team the most. If we play at the same speed as Denver did it will be to our eventual benefit with guys like Maggette, Hendo, Walker, Biyombo, and whatever rookie. We already have 4 probable starters that thrive in a more up tempo style. Kemba Walker will be much improved just by revving up the tempo alone.

. Run, run, run. Makes and misses... run!! I hope that is the plan.

Well, from what I've read about his strategy for us, I'd love it... But, this really does stink of MJ being cheap again. I read another national writer compared Dunlap to Thibs. I just don't know man. If that's accurate, we just hit the lotto. If it's not, we just hired another Sam Vincent.

I just have a hard time believing he's the next Thibs when there were already guys on the NBA level as assistants that have been called "the next Thibs." Again, I hope he's right and what I've read about his approach is exciting, but this isn't the NCAA.

Cho's plan to keep us in the lottery

This. Cho knows

Coach and team grow together.

They didn't have to pay a big name so maybe they can put the money they saved into buying the Hugo the Hornet costume from Tom Benson. Without something big happening with this franchise turning a profit will be tough.

So far this draft lottery and coaching hire has done nothing to charge up the fan base. Half priced tickets anybody?

This will help him out some, sources say that Tim Grgurich may join Dunlap's staff.

Here's a bit about Grgurich.

http://www.nba.com/coachfile/tim_grgurich/index.html

Longtime NBA veteran and highly respected assistant coach Tim Grgurich begins his second season with the Nuggets. Grgurich (GUR-gur-ich) brings 15 years of NBA experience to the Nuggets bench, including nine with Head Coach George Karl.

Before joining the Nuggets, Grgurich served as an assistant in Portland (2004-05; ’98-01), Phoenix (’02-04), Milwaukee (’01-02) and Seattle (’91-98).

Karl and Grgurich have a long history of success together. Including last season, Grgurich has been on Karl’s staff for five division titles and the pair made a trip to the NBA Finals together with Seattle in 1996.

The Trail Blazers also won a division crown with Grgurich on staff in ’98-99 and reached the Western Conference Finals twice.

Grgurich spent 12 years as an assistant coach under Jerry Tarkanian at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, preparing emerging NBA standouts such as Larry Johnson, Stacey Augmon, Greg Anthony, Armen Gilliam and Sidney Green. The Runnin’ Rebels won the 1990 NCAA Championship and made three Final Four appearances while he was part of the program.

His coaching career began at his alma mater, the University of Pittsburgh, where he also was a three-year letterman in both basketball and baseball. He began as an assistant and guided the freshman team to a 99-33 mark before assuming head coaching duties in 1975. Over five seasons, Pitt was 71-70 and made one trip to the NIT. As a player, he helped the Panthers to an NCAA and NIT tournament bid.

The assistant coach is the more interesting signing, Snyder could be sam 2.0 or Vinny Dell African American.

im not ecstatic by any means, but i am behind the pick. A young coach for a young team, you cant go wrong with that formula.

Great hire to people with a clue. Guys like Andy Katz are congratulating the Bobcats on Twitter for making a smart hire.

He's a genius as a coach, and other coaches come to his coaching training (see videos below). That's what a young team needs.

Morons always want FLASH, FLAIR, AND A BIG NAME as usual, as if that's always what's needed.

The Bobcats will play pressure defense next year now. Hopefully that doesn't mean they draft Gilchrist.

They will also probably play an uptempo offensive style, based on what I've seen.

This guy could end up being the next Scott Brooks or Greg Popovich for all any of us know. Of course neither would've ever been anything without the players they had, though, just like Phil Jackson wouldn't have been.

Agree! All the dummies always want the "Star Coaches".

Sure, Sloan wouldve been nice and I'll be honest, I was hoping it was Sloan too.

But would he have the attitude and time to coach a young team like ours and not leave this team in two or three years? Probably not.

Brian Shaw wouldve been nice also, but he havent shown anything as a HC. Howd would anyone knows if he's better than Dunlap. If he gets the Orlando's job, of course they're going to win more games than us, bc where the worst team. But well see down the road who's better.

For all the haters, suck it up. Cant do nothing about it, so mind as well cheer for him. Just like when everyone were bashing Cam, not wanting him. Time to jump on the bandwagon. We got a coach in Mike Dunlap who will coach these young guns we have here and better them each day. This is exactly the coach we needed. Someone with "NO BIG EGO", who wont complain and leave in two years bc we're a young rebuilding team. "Let the coach grow with the players". This is a great move by Cho and MJ. Hes not Sam Vincent. Gotta be better than Vincent. I'm sure Cho knows what he's doing.

And huge thanks for the vids. Watching the vids, man seem like he has some basketball IQ. He should be an intense coach wholl be a good teacher for our young boys to learn from. The second video: Oweeee! Kemba gonna get a lot of good coaching from this dude. Won't be surprise if this guy turns Kemba into a star. Kemba gonna learn how to pass some balls.

What's sadder is there are "hardcore" Bobcats fans out there trying to talk themselves into thinking this is a good hire.

I'm all for eating crow, but there's absolutely no way this guy was the best candidate available. You're telling me Jerry Sloan was available and we settled for an assistant at St. John's...

This franchise is so content with mediocrity, it's laughable.

Jerry Sloan pulled himself out of the running a while ago. Don't act like you actually care if you can't even bother to keep up
