Playoffs=winning season.

More wins than losses = winning season. You could argue playoffs = successful season, but not winning. Even including the playoff games they only broke even.

The Bucs probably could have gone to the playoffs if they were in the AFCW.

with the exception of a couple games, i only watched the first half then quit watching and took a few excedrin to help get rid of the headache i just got and then tried to take a nap and sleep it off.

2001 was easier, but mainly because i was in arkansas at that time and they weren't showing panther games there.

You can't make ANY educated or valid evaluation of a pass catching TE in Fix's offensive scheme. They just did not utilize the TE that way. Fix saw the TE as another OL for blocking.

I am not sure how he will be this season. But, let's wait to actually see him in a system that utilizes and values a pass catching TE that can work the seam.

He has the speed, hands, and athleticism that you want. Let's see if he can deliver in this system.

The ONLY time we saw him in this offense was ly training camp. And he looked very good and showed flashes of some great plays. I know it was only TC. But I would trust making an evaluation using TC in this system more than anything a TE did in Fox's system.

it wasn't fox's scheme, it was henning's that turned the TE into a 6th (and 7th) blocker. once davidson was hired, the TEs got utilized more, and you can say that their potential was maximized given the talent level that was there, which was basically mediocre. By extension you could say that WR utilization was also cut down to some degree. I don't remember Fox running nearly as many spread formations as he ran run heavy formations, and besides Moose and Keyshawn, WR2 production wasn't very good throughout Fox's tenure.

When Chud was hired we immediately went after Shockey and Olsen. Since a real pass catching threat at TE is required as it is a feature in Chud's offense, we had to shop for better talent. They're not generational talents by any means but they're way higher than Barnidge's level. Thinking that he's a 50 receptions guy if he just had the reps based on what doesn't even amount to a handful of productive games is jumping the gun. The funniest thing about it is that if he amounts to nothing and all this optimism is for naught (very plausible), everyone on the Barnidge bandwagon will simply forget they said anything about it relatively quickly.

the fact that the pats were shredding them so badly that brady was punting the ball away on 3rd down and von miller lost his poo should tell you just how much they belonged there.

there was at least one better team in the AFC that couldn't qualify because of the NFL's bent seeding system. they got a lot of breaks during the regular season and won a weak division while mounting comeback wins against terrible or injury-riddled teams.

My post was in no way hate for John Fox. It was just an honest and factual statement about the style of offense that he ran. I did not say that it was a good or bad offense, just that he did not utilize or value the TE in his scheme.

I had met Fox probably a dozen times in charitable and off the field events. Hell, I even was at his house for a Christmas party (my boss purchased Fox's house in Ballantyne when he was moving to Qual Hollow). I consider him to be a damn fine person and a good coach. His time here was just up. the combination of Fox/Hurney/JR just was not working anymore. It was time for a change....both for Fox and for the Panthers.

I am not going to argue whether it was Henning's of Fox's offensive scheme. Truth probably lies with both. My point is that the scheme that was run here did NOT value or utilize the TE. And that is a FACT.
