No where near as bad as montana though. I had to drive from Oregon to North Dakota one time, and Montana... that is a long ass state.

Montana is fuging awesome. My grandfather lives there. Woke up one morning around 7 & walked outside; saw 3 deer, a moose, a brown bear, & rabbits. And no people!

made the coast-to-coast 4 times within 6 weeks just before I retired. We were planning Desert Storm in DC and I was driving back & forth...

Went I-40 to Little Rock. I-30 from Little Rock to Dallas. I-20 from Dallas to just west of Pecos, Texas and picked up I-10 to SoCal (except I lived in San Diego so I took I-8 into SD at Yuma). Stay on I-10 to LA.

The stretch thru Texas is the worst, most boring drive I've ever done, and I'm a driving fool. I knew every Motel 6 along the way and could comfortably make the trip in 3 days, driving about 16 hours a day.

If I had to drive cross country, then I would make it interesting as possible. Stop and see a few places that would normally be out of the way. Places such as Yellowstone, Yosemite, the grand canyon, etc... I would plan my route to hit as many such places as I could.

Did that when I left the Army. Drove from Anchorage Alaska to Tok, Alaska. Took a 5 day ferry trip from there to Bellingham Washington. Then drove I-70 across was a great trip and saw alot of interesting places. Cant do that on this trip as I want to spend as much time as possible in NC. Still planning on 5 days to drive but wont need them all hopefully. I was trying to find things alone 40 but didnt see much. Might make a detour and see Carlsbad Caverns and the Hoover Dam. Nothing else I saw interested me like the Cadillac Ranch.

Reason Im driving the car is a couple of reasons. 1 it is paid for. 2 it isnt that old 2006. 3. Gets good gas mileage around 35mpg. 4 even if I sold it I could buy the same thing here in Hawaii would cosT alot more.

Amtrak really needs a Car Train from the East Coast to the West Coast.
