Darrell Green at Mini-Camp Practice

With the addition of two free agents it seems to me that the competition to land a roster spot is easier in Carolina than in Washington. There are very few roles to fill in DC so a street free agent would have his back against the wall from the get go. One of those 9 is purely a punt/kick returner who has no role in the offense so they really carried 8. Two of whom were special teams gunners.

So u would pick a team that carried 6 receivers over a team that carried 9?

Yeah of course. there is a chance of actually making the team in Carolina. Washington is loaded up. There are 12 receivers on Washington's roster right now. One of whom is Lance Lewis from East Carolina. I for one love the kid but he's headed for the practice squad if anything. 5 guys a locks. Moss, Garcon, Morgan, Hankerson, Banks. Paul moved to tightend. Armstrong had a great 2010 but a poor 2011. He was banged up most of the season. Hopefully he can rebound. Austin is a solid special teams player. Aldrick Robinson was on the practice squad most of last season but from the word i hear he's having a great camp. There are 8 receivers right there that Green would need to beat out and that doesn't include the other rookie free agents like Darius Hanks from Alabama. I just dont see it. In Carolina all he really has to do is beat out Edwards lol.

So I'm going to have to call B.S. on this story now that I've watched the following video on panthers.com:

http://www.panthers....95-fcb7981c95e3

At the 1:03 mark DG says he's "very familiar" with Mr. Richardson, and has "known him" so he wouldn't have been asking if Danny Morrison was the owner.

I'm also guessing DG would have reacted to being told Munnerlyn was too short. DG like Smitty went through his whole career being told he was too short... so I think that would have struck a nerve. In this interview, without any prompting, he brings up that he was barely 5'8" so nothing was given to him.

DG had asked if he was a Richardson, he could have been asking if that was maybe one of his sons or something of the sort. Also I don't think he would've made a big deal about the whole saying Munnerlyn was too short thing, he seemed like he wanted to keep a low profile.

Or he realises short CBs rarely survive in today's NFL

Not B.S.

I had something to contribute that I thought was kinda cool so I made my first post because it wasn't B.S.

DG asked "is he a Richardson?" Maybe he was simply wanting to know if he was in Richardson's organization... I dunno but that is what he asked and he was quick to jump up and go see him after I told him who Morrison was.

When I mentioned Captain's height DG did not respond. Maybe he just didn't want to possibly get in a pissing match and draw attention to himself. Obviously he was keeping a low profile because he told me he didn't like the tv cameras.

I had a good time at the practice and thought it was a good story to share. If you wanna call it B.S. go ahead.

There are 14 WR's on the Panthers roster right now.

I would like my odds as one of 9 out of 12 than one of 6 out of 14. The other thing Green would have working for him in DC is his last name... there would be a certain amount of pressure on the Skins to keep him on the roster. They didn't hire Bruce Allen for his merits as a GM alone and they didn't drag JG out of retirement solely for his credentials as a coach.

Given all that, if Green advised his son to choose the Panthers over the Skins that would say a lot about what Green thinks of the current state of the Skins.

Of course all of this assumes that the Skins made Jared an offer, which I intend to ask about the next time I see him.

Okay, thought you said he asked if it was Richardson not "a Richardson". Still surprised he would just let the "too short" comment pass, but it's possible.

Maybe he didn't want to play under his father's shadow. Those are huge shoes to fill. Chase Minnifield chose to play in Washington and not the Browns. Maybe for the same reasons.
