If the season started today....

Mildly comfortable with the secondary.

I think Martin can be a player, and Gamble/Marshall should excel in this new scheme.

We are just use to having exceptional CB depth.

There isn't a single reserve in the secondary that I have the slightest bit of confidence in. Perhaps Martin will pan out, but I'm not getting my hopes up with a rookie. Hopefully C-God will improve over his mediocre rookie season and Marshall will play more like he did his first couple of years in the league rather than how he played down the stretch last season.

Welp, you can either dread the coming possible doom making it an even more painful offseason, or have hope that things will be OK and enjoy the ride.:D

I'm actually looking forward to this season. It's going to be very entertaining to see if the running game alone can send us back to the playoffs. IT is DEFINITELY Super Bowl caliber.

pretty much.

i don't see why anyone wouldn't want to sit back and grin at the possibilities and enjoy the potential huge year we have coming up instead of feeling like we have little chance to succeed and go into the season dreading it.

we don't know how the season is going to turn out. why not believe that it will be good.

btw...i don't see why that roster couldn't win a superbowl. it wasn't too far from it last year (and count me as one that believes that peppers will be back and playing this year).

I like to think that our secondary is a unit that was in no way living up to it's potential and that with the change in coaching that is going to be the area most improved. Look at the OL between 07 and 08. There was a serious need, it was addressed in the offseason, and look at where we are.

I think Martain and Munnerlyn can be serious players given the right development.

All in all, I think this is a SB caliber team if for no other reason than I still believe in the players and I think that this years coaching staff is head and shoulders above what was here last year.

Discuss other possibilities if you like. This one makes the most sense to me based off the number of players the Panthers usually carry at each position. It's very possible that Heygood and Cadogan won't make the team though.

Sweet. It's nothing huge really, I just think Brayton will start over Lewis this year. I thinks Meeks will make him good, he's his type of player. On that note, I actually think the D line will be better than what it was last year just because of the coaching change. Don't get me wrong, it may still be fairly average, but I do see an improvement.

If the season started today I think we're pretty much the team we were last year. Playoffs maybe, but not any further. If we're going to win the superbowl we need big improvements from both our D-line and the QB position. I would want pep to be back and Jake to go back into his cardiac cats form. Of course there are other options, but I think that's the standard we need to reach.

I'm definitely sitting back and grinning at the possibilities with the ground game. The best running attack in the league last year just added the best fullback in the draft, another explosive running back, and a couple of wide bodies for the line. There's no reason why our backs can't get well over 2,000 yards next season between them, maybe even 2,500.

goodson and fiammetta were incredible acquisitions to the team as was robinson. we already had one of the best running games in the league. goodson just adds another huge dimension to it, though. poor man's reggie bush as our 3rd RB? yeah....i'll take that. add in that we still have one of the best WRs in the game.

if rip can get jake on track and meeks can get that defense to improve (which i think he can) then this team can take any team on any day and beat them. we are going to have some huge challenges this year but I am confident that if we can come out of it with a winning record into the playoffs and stay really close in those games we do happen to lose then i will feel incredible about our chances going all the way.

here would be my predicted 53 man roster. Look at every position and ask yourself...is this a Super Bowl roster? Note: I'm going to predict this assuming that Peppers will remain a Panther, but that he'll hold out indefinitely. Starters are bolded:

QB: Jake Delhomme, Josh McCown, Matt Moore

RB: DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Mike Goodson ®

FB: Brad Hoover, Tony Fiammetta ®

WR: Steve Smith, Muhsin Muhammad, Dwayne Jarrett, Jason Carter, Ryne Robinson

OL: Jordan Gross, Travelle Wharton, Ryan Kalil, Keydrick Vincent, Jeff Otah, Duke Robinson ®, Geoff Schwartz, Mackenzy Bernadeau, Gerald Cadogan ®

TE: Jeff King, Dante Rosario, Gary Barnidge

DL: Everette Brown ®, Charles Johnson, Ma'ake Kemoeatu, Damione Lewis, Tyler Brayton, Corvey Irvin ®, Hilee Taylor, Nick Hayden

LB: Jon Beason, Thomas Davis, Na'il Diggs, Dan Connor, James Anderson, Landon Johnson, Anthony Heygood ®

S: Chris Harris, Charles Godfrey, Nate Salley, Quinton Teal

CB: Chris Gamble, Richard Marshall, C.J. Wilson, Dante Wesley, Sherrod Martin ®

K: John Kasay, Rhys Lloyd

P: Jason Baker

LS: J.J. Jansen

If Peppers returns, say goodbye to Nick Hayden.

At this point, I guess I'd have to agree..

But a few differences... I don't see Jason Carter starting over Ryne Robinson.. And if you're starting today, Rosario wouldn't be available to play due to surgery on his back. Barnidge would get the nod. As excited as I will be to see Brown on the field, I think Brayton will start over Brown at this point (so would Johnson)... And I think we may see Sherrod Martin starting at nickle...

Just a few changes that I see as more likely...

IMO, We are a Super Bowl contender..how you ask?

Say what you want but at the QB spot, we have a guy whos made pro bowls before and a guy who has gotten us to the Super Bowl - check

RB - no need to even talk about it - check

OL - everyone back, depth hurts but a very good group up front - check

WR/TE - Basically the same bunch as last season and any WR group with Smitty on it is a contender. Not to mention Moose and I think Jarrett will come out this season and make an impact. This is his make or break year and I think he makes it. TE position doesnt have any all stars but doesnt have scrubs either - check

DL - To me, this is our only weakness on defense. EBrown, Kemo, Lewis, Johnson, Irvin, Brayton and HTaylor really need to step it up, esp if Pepp holds out. Without Pepp, it will be a very inconsistent group with some games it gettin run all over and then other games I see Brown, Johnson and Lewis looking really good. With Peppers, the DL turns into a very good pass rushing unit - with pepp - check, without - no check

LB - Beason and Davis are just plain good. Another year under their belts and another DC will do them wonders. I love the LB core so check.

DB - Gamble, Marshall, and Martin at CB ; Godfrey and Harris at safety. Not the best in the league but its up there. Much like the LB core, a new DC will do this group wonders because their is talent at the DB spot for us - check

K and P - Kasay, Baker - check

OK so from what I see, the DL is the key for us. Of course if injuries occur, diff story, but the DL without Pepp, OL depth, and special teams(return games) are places we dont look so good, but overall, no team is perfect and we look to be a very good team. I can see us making the super bowl..UNLESS injuries to the QB, RB, Smitty, etc..you get point.
