Basically, Kevin Ellison set his bed on fire in his apartment and told cops at the hospital that god told him to do it and that he just "wanted it all to go away". He also reportedly sent numerous texts to people claiming he was Jesus and part of the second coming.

Jesus, I've got some bad news. You're early, the Mayan calendar indicates the world doesn't end until this December.

(I can't actually read it, but I'm sure Jesus wouldn't have a problem.)

Sad to see someone suffering from mental illness. Hopefully he gats the help that he obviously needs.

Could also be drugs. Marijuana can cause a Bipolar mania type reaction. It can also precipitate a psychotic episode in someone with a susceptibility to develop a psychotic disorder.

I had a client once that was manic, delirious, and grandiose when he smoked pot. He once stopped at a church and interrupted their Sunday service proclaiming he was Jesus Christ. Off the pot, he was fine.

Could be either. Hope for his sake it was just the pot. He can fix that.

Din't post that in the Tinderbox. Unless you want to get a lecture on how pot is wonderful and causes no issues.

Something tells me his pot wasn't straight pot. Many people tend to their pot with heavier drugs like coke because it neutalizes the other drugs.

Either way, I hope he gets the help he needs. Jail isn't the answer.

Without knowing the details it is hard to say what caused this behavior but it appears delusional in nature with religious themes. Was it caused by the marijuana? Not usually unless the pot was laced with other things although on rare occasions pot use particularly by inexperienced users can act as a trigger for people with previous signs of mental illness. It is worthy to note that he has also been arrested for possession of vicodin which excessive use has been linked with suicidal thoughts and psychotic thought processes. We will know when a toxicity screen comes back if it is released to the public.
