Steve Smith interview on 93.3

I used to have stronger feelings about it......but now I just trust that Richardson knows who really means something to that organization. I'd have no problems with whoever he deems worthy. It's not something I would see him taking lightly.

Yeah but we aren't the Steelers, we're the Panthers. And when a classy ass guy like Kasay comes around and not only starts at a position, but excels at it, he deserves some special credit. Especially since he was here for what 16 years?

We don't have anyone honored except for Sam.

Special credit is fine....I think that is displayed when Jackie Miles says numbers are off limits despite them being active/available.

You don't throw guys in the ring of honor just bc only one is in it and you feel more are needed....

No one outside of Sam at this point should of been considered for that

really mills was an inspirational player and, more importantly, human. he didn't have to spend the bulk of his career with the team. he just had to make an impact on it on and off the field while he was here.

kasay was just a good teammate and did what he was told enough for him to keep his job for 16 years or whatever. i just don't see him as being as special as others do.

I'm not big on NFL numbers being retired. It has to be something insane to qualift in my opinion. With that said Kasay borderline deserves it. I mean really, do we need number 4 that bad? No one else past or present comes close in my opinion. I love Steve and I have no doubt he will be honored when he retires but the reality is he won't be remembered as one of the greatests of all time. He had the talent, just bad coaching and quarterback play combined with injury spells ruined a Hall of Fame career.

I think the 4th home game of the season should be John Kasay day when he retires. Also you can do creative things like name a section or a bar in the stadium after Steve. I think Cam is the only guy currently with statue potential.

How about this: No retired jerseys. Team before individuals.

Ring of Honor and or statue should be good enough. Then, when someone else is running around with 89 or 52 or 17, we can say "remember when 'so and so' was here". I still think about Morgn when I see 55 running around, "thinking that dude will never be as good as Morgan."

52, 20, and 69 could get retired. . . . depends on a lot of things though right

I dont think Minter was quite special enough to have his number retired, but he is currently my favorite retired Panther. I wish we had a safety as cold as that now.

None of the numbers you mentioned will be retired.

No one mentioned besides Smitty has had the impact on this franchise. No where even close. That means winning games, individual play, team impact, fan impact, etc. You get where I'm going. People went, and still go to Panthers games because of Steve Smith. Panthers games were won and lost because of Steve Smith. This franchise is where it is at right now because of Steve Smith.

While everyone has contributed and there may have been some individual plays that won games, no one in their right mind would lump any other player that has been on this team with Smith.

While I realize I rock Steve Smith signatures and avatars all the time that is mostly a gimmick because of the love I have always showed him on this forum. I feel this issue is common sense and thus unaffected by my bias.

I simply cannot understand how fans can want to retire #'s of fan favorites.

Look around the league.

Numbers don't get retired for every fan favorite.

I understand the sentimental value, but teams just can't go around retiring every fan favorite.

If that was the case, the Panthers would have retired Hoover's # when they found

out how rabid the fan base was when Hoover was retired.

Lol

Smitty is the best player ever to wear a Panther jersy to date so yes he should have a jersey retired.

Id love to see a statue of Smitty stiff arming Tracy Porter on that leaping catch or him escaping the gang tackle in Houston.

As for Kasay- he should get respect and a big thanks.

-statue- heck no.

-retired number- heck no

Would he get those things if he kicked the game winning fg in the super bowl- yes bc he would be a Charlotte sports legend.

But all know he shanked the routine kickoff at the most crucial time of the game and had an above avg career. Thanks.
