Well Gross nor Gamble have those moments...

As far a Beason goes I still lump him with he Gross type guys. Pro Bowler but lacks that special something. I don't consider leadership that "it" factor I am hinting at....Smitty, Peppers and Cam have all hinted they can almost single handedly take over a game with freak play.

Beason doesn't have that ability. Pep lacks the heart Smitty and Cam have to go along with the freak play. Rather have a Beason than a Pep....but Peps ceiling is and always has been higher.

All of that is right on the money, but I will say this. First, Gamble and Gross havnt had those moments . . . yet, and still may several chances to do so. And second, having your number retired is not the same as going to the hof. The criteria, I dont think, is the same.

Last original Panther? Possibly the most classy guy our franchise ever had?

Kickers numbers have been retired before lol...

sorry. shouldn't happen.

statue? maybe.

ring of honor? maybe.

jersey retired? nope.

don't retire jersey just because he was loyal, nice, and at most an above-average player at his position for most of his career.

retire jersey's for players who were dominant at their position and helped make something special happen.

that might have been kasay had he not screwed up that kick in the superbowl (though that kick alone isn't the sole reason he shouldn't have his jersey retired, it just would have helped his "case" such as it is).

I know that Jan Stenerud of the Kansas City Chiefs had his number retired in 94'.

And I know that a lot of die hard Eagles fans want David Akers Jersey retired even though he's with the niners.

Is this just another one of your many arguments of the day CRA?

yeah, b/c saying you don't retire Ks numbers is so crazy. About as crazy as saying DeAngelo's deal was dumb.

you don't retire Ks numbers. There are always excpetions. I acknowledged that and I know about Jan. To my knowledge, he is the last K to have his number retired......and he will likely be the last one we see for a long time.

Arguing Kasay should have his number retired is the "crazy" just wanting "argue" position......not my stance.

If New England doesn't do anything with Vinatieri's number when he retires, why in the world should we do anything with Kasay's number?

Stenerud is only in the Hall because he revolutionized the way kickers kicked. He was the first to use the "soccer style" that's still in effect today. Prior to Stenerud, kickers simply ran straight on to the ball and booted it with their toes.

The only reason people want Kasay's retired is for sentimental reasons. That's not why you retire numbers. His performance and impact on the team and franchise means very little in the grand scheme of things.

NE won't do anything w/ his number. He wouldn't of become a Colt if he was that great in their eyes.

stenerud pretty much revolutionized the position. helped his team win a superbowl. is one of 3 kickers in the league in the hall of fame.

that is why the chiefs retired his jersey.

that ain't kasay.

Kasay is a fan favorite....and rightfully should be.

People like to turn those guys into more than they are. Lots of examples of that to varies degrees can be found of that...

I'm sure he wont get it retired lol, just like I'm sure we will never have our logo at midfield.

But in my opinion he deserves his #4 to be retired. Just like it was said earlier, the thought of seeing some UDFA receiver wearing 89 is painful. Seeing some 3rd string QB wear #4 would bother me too.

In 2001 the Miami Heat retired the #23 simpily because MJ is the greatest of all time. Sometimes you do respectful things like that, but in this case unfortunately our owners will probably never get it done.

this ain't basketball.....they have plenty of numbers to go around. Football teams can't afford to retire fan favorites numbers. Jackie Miles just keeps the ones we don't want bums wearing off limits.

QB's and P/K's can wear numbers 1-19. There's only 3 QB's on the roster and only 1 punter and one kicker.

That leaves 14 other numbers available, take away 4 of those for certain receivers like Gettis/LaFell and it leaves you with like 10.

If we can't afford to permanently take away 1 of those 10 numbers to honor Kasay, that's just another decision I'll have to disagree with our front office making..

and rosters likely will expand in the next few years especially if Goodell gets his way to have more than 16 games in the regular season. Bigger rosters. More numbers to be given out.....

If the Steelers had retired the Jon Kasay type players of the years....they wouldn't have numbers to give out. Just b/c we are a young franchise doesn't mean we should be silly.

Yeah but we aren't the Steelers, we're the Panthers. And when a classy ass guy like Kasay comes around and not only starts at a position, but excels at it, he deserves some special credit. Especially since he was here for what 16 years?

We don't have anyone honored except for Sam.

extra special credit, yeah. shouldn't be a jersey, tho.

statue or ring of honor.

btw...imo kasay should have gotten the boot a few years earlier. as soon as we needed to take up an extra roster spot with a KO specialist we should have started looking instead of giving him an extension.
