Verizon Tinkering w/ Phone Plans

Focusing more so on shared plans

Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest cellphone company, is dropping nearly all of its phone plans in favor of pricing schemes that encourage consumers to connect their non-phone devices, like tablets and PCs, to Verizon's network.

The new plans will become available on June 28, and reflect Verizon's desire to keep growing now that nearly every American already has a phone. The plans let families and other subscribers share a monthly data allowance over up to 10 devices.

I'm screwed for the future. I got grandfathered into their unlimited plan from Alltel and I know they're trying to actively kick us off the plan. Sucks for me because I use so much data

I have an unlimited plan from my original smart phone plan on an HTC Droid Eris from 5 years ago and they keep honoring it at each renewal. I've never been given the impression that they aren't going to allow me to keep it.

They announced a few weeks ago that they'll stop subsidizing new phones for those on those unlimited plans. Everyone on the plan has to buy the phones at full price and we apparently can't go to 4G. I'll try to pull up that article

I'm also on an old grandfathered Alltell plan... they've always said they would honor it, but I suspect that will change the next time I upgrade and have to sign a new contract. They don't like those unlimited data plans... it's probably killing them that they can't make more money off of us.
