I dont blame Otah.... not willing to play hurt is smart. We knew he didn't do that when we drafted him.

Players who don't give a fug about there health are great to have.... but the hate the big man recieves is a tad much

Actually we didn't know that when we drafted him. He had a high ankle sprain his senior year at Pitt and played on it most of the season. When we drafted him he sat out a number of months rehabbing it before he was allowed to play. He actually had a rep of playing through pain in college. After he went to the pros it was a totally different matter.

I am excited about Beason coming back. I think many people have forgotten just how good he is in coverage. Thinking about Beason and Kuechly in pass coverage underneath will drastically help our secondary.

No more getting abused by Jimmy Graham. In fact if you think back to our games most of the gains we let up through the air were on passes over the middle or in areas covered by linebackers.

The senior season at Pitt where he played the ENTIRE season with a high ankle sprain makes me wonder about Otah now. That season showed the ability to play through pain....which leads me to question just how bad his knee is and what kind of pain/swelling he experiences with.

This may very well be a very good football player whose body just gave out on him....rather than a soft player who cannot play through the pains of being an NFL player.

Hmmmmm

I think he's been willing to play through pain but we keep shelving him if the season isn't going so hot. Why risk his long term health if we aren't going to make the playoffs ya know?

Hey smartass if Otah doesn't get it together this season, the final year of his rookie contract, he never will. Even if he does have a good, healthy season for us this year the panthers would be damn fools to invest a ton of money in this guy.

Otah is just not a football player man.

First, the most amusing part of your post is YOU calling anyone a Smart Ass.

Second, I am not saying that he will EVER play at a high level in the NFL. I am not trying to predict what he will do. I do not want the Panthers to invest anything in him if he can't get it togetehr this season.

I am just saying that there has NEVER been anything said or shown that suggest Otah to be out of shape or lazy.

He played his entire senior season on a high ankle sprain....very painful. I have no idea what type of pain/swelling the guy experiences.

He appears to be injury prone and with a bad knee.....not the same as being out of shape or lazy.

Could be....I don't know.

I really hope to see him back to form this season. With the offensive weapons we have added....Cam with an offseason to work....Silotolu added to the OL.....a healthy Otah could me a GREAT offense this year.

Otah had meniscus surgery and there is really no reason for it still to be hurting him almost 18 months later. I am not 340 lbs but I had ACL reconstruction surgery and a bucket handle tear of the meniscus where they removed the torn meniscus which should mean I would have more bone on bone pain issues moving forward. Yet my knee was largely good to go in 12 months and for the last 20 years have had little problem with it. I am pretty active rock climbing, rapelling, hiking, etc so it isn't as if I don't use it. I can't say what his issues are or why it doesn't heal but given people have not said he has more extensive damage, he really should not have a lot of swelling or pain at this point. It is confusing....................

When Otah was drafted he had two red flags....raw and didn't play through pain like "most" guys

What part of he played through a painful high ankle sprain all of the year and played at a high enough level that he was drafted in the first round. In fact we didn't know how bad it was because he was able to run on it and do most things. How is that compatible with not playing through pain? I never heard that about him and think you are making it up.......
