Cam has already changed the NFL

He tried to make it easy on himself by going to a 2nd rate college in the big12, but still couldn't get it done.

The fact that Cam came into Auburn for 1 year and nearly single handedly won a national championship after an undefeated season in the SEC is actually quite remarkable, since we want to compare college careers.

At any rate, the first time either one of these guys gets injured and their respective team goes to hell, the "option quarterback is changing the NFL" hype will fade.

I agree with most of your post but I have a feeling RG3 won't be running the option like we do. And even we don't use it all too often.

Yeah, I think most of the media that never watched the Panthers games labelled us an option team, and assumed Cam was never under center in the no huddle like Alex Smith did.

Griffin does deserve alot of the praise he gets, but the reason he isn't getting that whole "can't digest an NFL playbook" or "can't properly read a defense" crap (AKA, talking heads insinuating black quarterbacks aren't smart enough for the NFL) is because Cam came into this league and shredded defenses weekly through the air.

He's not getting that because he has always been considered a very intelligent person who graduated from both high school and college early. That's all to his credit and is not because of Cam Newton.

Cam has the same agility and sight as some of the elite RBs in the league. Elway did not have the moves Cam does. Im not saying Cam is better than Elway, just not really a good comparison.

Also Elway is the 4th leading passer of all time, not really considered a runner imo.

Good lord. Cam does not have the explosion of Mike Vick or any of the elite RB's in the game. Vision maybe agility, not so much.

Elway was absolutely known as a runner, you know he has over 3400 yards rushing....

I am not saying that they are the same player, just that when I think of Cam, I see a little Elway in there.

Desire to win is one of the big reasons. Compare him to Steve McNair, or Fran Tarkenten or whomever, but IMO there is ton of similarities between him and Elway.

P.S. Their combine 40 yard dash numbers were almost the same.

I will give you the little of Elway bit, but clone? No way. Newton had a little more than 1/5 of Elways total rushing yards in his rookie season. Although I do not see Cam running as much the rest of his career, but you never know.

See thats the problem right there. Cam, hasn't taken over the league. He put up some amazing numbers sure but he is nowhere near the "Super hero" Panther fans claim him to be. I didn't see his name in the MVP hunt so "taking over the league" is a little far fetched IMO.

umm..... yes he has.

And MVP is your only qualifier for a player to be The Guy? I dont even remember who won the MVP honestly and i dont care all i know is that ppl are talking Cam Newton everywhere. I can be as objective as the next guy. I didnt even want Newton when all this started. But he blew me and everyone else who was lucky enough to watch him away. Mr. Newton owns right now.

RG3 is the new Favre..

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d829be739/article/robert-griffin-iii-is-the-new-brett-favre?module=HP11_content_stream

"Griffin seems more equipped to handle the new media onslaught than most. He understands his place as franchise savior and seems to have fun with it."

Damn bro!

RG3 is better than Cam, will develop better than John Elway, and is the next Farve.

Hell we might as well not even play a down and just give them the Lombardi now.

Look at how much hype RG3 is getting. The media is hyping him a lot higher than Luck. Why is that?? Its because of the "Cam Effect" on the NFL. The whole time leading up to Cam's rookie season, everyone was wondering how big of a bust he would be. Now, with RG3, everyone is looking at how big of a star he will be. Just goes to show you another example of the "Cam Effect". Welcome to the new era, where the Joe Montana and John Elway clone QBs may not be the most desired.

Highly drafted quarterbacks getting huge hype is hardly a new phenomenon.

Montana and Elway are pretty much nothing alike.

And in reality, Newton is an "Elway clone".

This whole 'changing the game' thing is just silly.
