My new puppy

Panthro

Recommended Posts

Get a house with a fenced backyard and a dog door. You can rent a house almost as cheap as an apartment these days. Not to be a dick or anything but if I had to crate my dog then I would give him up to someone who would give him a better life.(Again thats just me, not judging).

Crate training a dog is much better for the dog over the long haul. Dogs are den animals, that crate is like their den.

Until my dog was not able to move in his (hips) if he got missing, I could always go find him in his crate fast asleep.

I am not surprised by this.

I am actually not a cat person but only say that because Panthro hates them. Although I must admit that if he had got a cat instead, none of this would be an issue right now.

This really is the reason I don't think I will ever own a puppy. My next dog when I get more settled in life will be a housetrained adult either from someone I know or a rescue from a shelter. Working full time would leave me no time to train a puppy.

I have two cats and have had more issues out of them than the dog. Between scratching and getting on the counters, they are far more of a pain than my dog. Granted, cats will be cats, but I'm calling it as I see it. I think though, I've been lucky with my German shepherd. She's highly intelligent, doesn't chew things that aren't hers, and doesn't have accidents unless actually sick. Also listens very well.

german shepherds are amazing animals and i have 1000x more respect for the breed now that i have one

i have a male though, and that is a constant struggle for control. hoping he's more manageable in a year or two

Cut his nuts off and never look away while he is looking at you. Make him drop his head, or look away first.

Just a little thing I have learned.

Mine is cLosing in on 3. He has mellowed a lot just in the past year. He has his moments but overall his disposition is pretty even. He no longer tries to herd the kids. That was a major issue when he was younger.

supersoaker works wonders with cats. you can also discipline them a bit like dogs... pick them up by the scruff of their necks and get in their face... don't have to yell. just very low, stern NO.

i don't like cats... which is why any that have lived with me have been very well behaved.

Yeah we've squirted him, the male cat is just retarded, I really think he is.

yep he's fixed. he will barely look me in the eye. he just gets overly enthusiastic and doesn't want to listen sometimes. first dog i've ever HAD to train.

It's nothing other than an alpha male thing. I have a male husky that lives with me, same exact issues. Always testing to see if they can become the dominate male in the house.

It's my roommates dog, and he is more dominate than his owner, but not me.

Always testing, and he is 6 years old.
