Panthers Sign Two Receivers

Recommended Posts

Not the same, IMO.

Those 2 inches, and ability to put on more weight in a pro atmosphere are the difference.

Gettis is good, but he won't ever be as dominate as a 6'5 kinda guy that can run.

I guess I just disagree that 2 inches in one receiver makes an offense.

Not saying it makes or breaks an O.

Just saying that Gettis is not Jackson.

There is a reason megatron and Andre Johnson were drafted so very high.

P.S. ask Russell Wilson is 2 inches makes a difference.

A little confusing to say the least. It was reported that Manno was solid, but, yet and still, he gets axed. I am not sure if I buy the camp fodder theory. Why cut someone who has knowledge of the playbook in favor of two newbs? How does this make sense? Moreover, searching for the next Cruz and/or V-Jax by throwing crap up against the wall and seeing if it sticks doesn't make sense to me either. It's starting to make me wonder about the status of our WR corps.

Rivera must have those boys running on hot coals in his quest to raise the bar.

I love that someone who's a fan of the Panthers, who have someone named Steve Smith on their team, is talking about how a 6'3 guy is too short compared to a 6'5 guy to be dominant; citing only height.

Not too short, just not the same player as a 6'5 guy.

I am not taking anything away from SS, or what he has been able to do, but to think that short WR's are going to be able to do what Smitty does on a consistent basis is foolish. SS is a freak, and everyone that follows football at all knows this. But it's much easier to be a true downfield/stretch the D type WR when you are 6'5, than 5'8.

Nobodies are brought in for camp every year....this is not anything new.

They aren't and don't need to overwork Smith and they aren't going to overwork Gettis either. They simply need bodies to throw to and operate 3 strings of offense.

spot on.

it's odd for around here for there to be so many WRs, but they are just doing what it takes keep a lot of bodies in and on the field. we'll be seeing a lot more of the same all offseason.

switching them out frequently isn't an issue to be concerned with. they are just dabbling.

seriously...nothing to get worked up about or start "questioning" what this FO or coaching staff is doing. it just isn't the big deal people are making it out to be.

i wouldn't get too attached to any of these WRs outside of smitty, lafell, gettis, adams, or maybe even pilares, though.

Exactly. Smitty is able to do it at 5'8, but the guy we're talking about is SIX FOOT THREE. We're not talking a munchkin, we're talking a big receiver here. Those 2 inches aren't going to change much at all.

Would you rather have a 6'2 guy or a 6'4 guy?

Would you rather have a 6'4 guy or a 6'6 guy?j

I am not saying that it will make or break, but any advantage in the NFL is going to matter.

Face it, Gettis is not as big as the Johnsons, or Vincent Jackson. And there is a reason they are getting paid mega bucks in the NFL.

easy...because as much knowledge as they might have after days (and maybe even a couple weeks) of time in the playbook...after watching them workout you see that they probably don't have the 'it' factor that you are looking for so instead of keeping them around to see if there might possibly be something...why not just cut your losses and see if you can find something better before investing anything more in them?

looking for the next cruz is something that people on message boards and in the media talk about. i seriously doubt that hurney or rivera is sitting there chomping at the bit hoping that they can find "the next victor cruz".

It's starting to make me wonder about the status of our WR corps.
not sure why it would. they are at a place where they have the luxury of trying out a lot of WRs to see is they can find someone that really jumps out at them. it's perfectly fine for them to "throw crap at the wall and see what sticks". why would that be a bad thing? they aren't desperate. they are just seeing if there are other dangerous players they can use to stress out DCs and trying to get our secondary a lot of varied WRs to practice against.

it's certainly not anything close to an indictment of our WRs or any cause for concern.

Yeah, Rayz, but by many accounts, Manno was a standout. Of course, you never know what "standout" means when making comparisons to fodder vs vets.

On an off note, I have just had this feeling for about a week that there are gonna be some "surprise" cuts at the WR position before it's all said and done. Could be nothing though.
