Baseball Card/Sports Memorabilia Shops around Charlotte

In this day and age, it's unbelievable how hard it is to find a Sports Card Shop that is still in business. It's a shame really... I loved going to AAA Collectables in Matthews as a kid... too bad more kids these days don't have the same passion for cardboard crack (cards) like I did.

What are the best around town?

Upper Deck was the best thing and worst thing to ever happen to sports cards.

Back in 1990 there were some 1200 sets and subsets for baseball alone. (Upper Deck game out in 1989.) Up until then, yhou basically had 4 sets a year. Topps, Fleer, Donruss & to a lesser extent, Sports Flics.

Then Upper Deck came along and there was Leaf (Fancy Donruss.), Topps Tiffany, Fleer Ultra, and on and on! Collectors just got burned out on all the sets.

I started collecting on and off since the early 60's. then about 1990, I just got fed up with Baseball cards. After that I just concentrated on teams that I liked. Cincy Reds & Indy Colts & Indiana Pacers.

I have sold off all my sets I had, but still kept the Colts, Reds & Pacers cards. (I even gave away all my Panthers cards a few years ago.) Now ever once in a while I buy a pack at Target ot Walmart.

  • 2 months later...

Card shops are dying for the most part around here. The one closest to me in Cary is overpriced as hell and I pretty much buy online only now.

Side note that I just want to share, I got a full sized Cam auto helmet last night and I'm pumped about it. Internet is the way to go these days.

I started collecting when I was around 6 or 7 (a few years after Charlotte got the Hornets). My parents got me a Beckett subscription for my birthday one year and I became a collector by hobby. Loved it :).

There used to be a place called All-Stars at Cotswald Mall as well as a place off Independence near the Sharon-Amity intersection (IIRC). Can't remember the name of that one though. Smitty's maybe?
