Hardy says he's up to 299...

Makes me nervous when a 6'4" dude is sitting at 300lbs trying to play DE in a 43.

To put that into perspective, Peppers is 6'7" and tries to play around 285.

You gotta also remember though that peppers is exceptionally lean and could probably get towards 300 on some sort of power lifting program. I've seen his strength training routine and it's primarily plyometrics. I think the way he trains helps keep him from being injured though. He was around that 285 when he was playing basketball for UNC.

Also I got a funny feeling we are going to be running a much more complex and diverse defense. Having hardy around 300 makes him ideal as a 3-4 end and can kick inside on the 4-3. If he's still got most of his speed he'll be effective enough to play 4-3 end as well.

I think Chico gonna do some loco things with this defense, homes.

simply being 300 lbs does not make you an ideal 3-4 end. you also need to be able to take on 2 gaps in most schemes (including the one Rivera ran in San Diego, which would be the scheme he'd adapt to our defense) and I think that's a little much to expect from a guy who struggled setting the edge against the run last year.

That said I expect Hardy to make strides this year.

Cant remember where I read it but they say the avg body fat in pro athletes about 5-12%, some as low as 3%, That variable doesnt mean the most though.

See this guy, doesnt look very mean.

Peppers weighed 300+ in 2010, at least according to announcers who said he had decided to bulk up. Peppers is a freak though so it doesn't make much of a difference to him.
