Hardy says he's up to 299...

gain as much muscle as he wants but if he doesn't get better on the field, he won't be starting. I'm hoping Frank Alexander is a stud from day 1. I'm hoping Hardy takes his game to the next level though

Hardy has been the favorite for the starting job, Rivera likes him and he works very hard. Alexander is gonna be rotational and so is Applewhite , Keiser so we can keep CJ and Hardy fresh. Hardy or CJ had NO interior pass-rush. None.

Combining this with Beason and company, the rest of the NFC just got put on notice

Not to mention having Applewhite and Anlexander on the bench. If there is improvement in the interior D-line (with Edwards coming back and FuClain having a year of training there should be) this D has potential to be nasty.

It's good to see him and the rest of the team working hard. The thing I love more than anything else is effort. We need more talent on this team but effort goes a long way. Without effort Cam would have had a tough go last year. I'm sure the training staff has input on his physique. They may have even started working on his body during last season.

I thought he did play DT in some packages last year?

You are correct. There was the so-called NASCAR Package I referenced in the OP with Applewhite - Johnson - Hardy - Norwood (later, Keiser)

Though, I do also seem to remember him kicking inside on some passing downs in our base D.

If Hardy truly is 299 right now then we are going to see him breakout this season presuming that he has kept his speed and the majority of his athleticism... we need one of our defensive ends outside of CJ to step up this season.

As Snake said, I think we are going to see a lot more of the 3-4 this season with the bodies and personnel we have right now. Certainly the 4-3 will remain our base and most-used formation, but I just have a feeling we will switch to the 3-4 fairly often to present match up problems and get the most talent on the field. Something like this:

Johnson- Edwards- Hardy

Anderson-Kuechly-Beason-Davis

Hogan/Captain/Norman-Gamble

Martin/Smith-Godfrey/Nakamura

Don't forget Applewhite, he did some good things last seasons at LB.

It's weird because Hardy goes 100% on every play, but constantly has a look like he is gassed. Hands on the hips and what not.

I was an all state Baseball player and played two years in the Minor Leagues for the Toronto Blue Jays ( pretty sure I have brought that up before on this forum ) and I suffered from something similar. I went to states and finished 8th in the 100m dash and I ran Cross Country as well. So I was a speedy guy but I definitely had plenty of stamina, too. But, for the life of me, I always had tht gassed look even if we were just starting to run. I would breath very heavily immediately but I always had plenty in the tank. Now that you have mentioned it I never noticed it with anyone else before.
