Manno and Wes Kemp waived

Serious question... do you know where our owner went?

Of course. But you are basing this on Manno actually being somebody with some kind of credentials or experience. If he had any potential or shown anything in his past 5 years (graduated in 2007) of attempting to make a team in any capacity....then yes. it might be questionable why he wasn't given a more of a chance. I get the impression people don't realize Manno is no different than the Wofford guy. He's not a vet, he's not a special teams guy. All he's done in 5 years is be invited to one NFL camp and he got cut. He didn't make any preseason catches. He didn't make any preseason special teams tackles. He didn't return any kicks.

I simply don't see why people latched on to him and question why he would be cut.

I cant speak for everybody, but i can tell you why I latched on.

1-He was Highly recommended by Cam, which i would think has A LOT of weight being that he's our franchise QB

2-His workout video was pretty sick

3- Very humble and personable on twitter

4-he was an underdog, and we love under dogs.

5-Kind of reminded me of a Welker (size and race) and yes I know it's silly but isn't it natural to draw these types of comparisons?

Does any of this point to him being anything special or warrant any thinking or feeling that he would make the squad? No... Of course it doesnt. I had a feeling... and it looks like i was wrong. i still hope that he catches on somewhere though and blows up. I don't know why I felt a connection with him, I just did... Also I'm not arguing over why he was cut at all. see my first post in this thread

And I'm really not trying to be an ass here.....

If Cam suggested they take a look at him, and they actually did based on that... then I think that's more than would normally be expected from the suggestions of a second year player. In the end they brought the guy in and gave him a shot...it just didn't work out.

You'll get no arguments from me on that. I basically said the same thing on pg 1

I was just telling you why I latched on, but for you to downplay Cam as "a second yr player" is kind of silly. I think that you and I know he's a little more than that, but i see what you're saying.

He's not a scout. As good as he is, he's still just a second year player learning the NFL game himself.

That's certainly not a knock on Newton, just a fact.

CHARLOTTE - Two players who recently auditioned for the Panthers have earned parts in the team's next act.

Undrafted rookie free agent wide receivers Michael Avilaicon-article-link.gif from San Jose State and Lamont Bryanticon-article-link.gif from Morgan State have been signed and will take part in Carolina's minicamp that begins Tuesday. Avila previously participated in the team's rookie camp as a tryout player in May, while Bryant worked out for the Panthers last week.

Avila (5-8, 168 pounds) played in 32 games with one start for the Spartans and made 31 catches for 247 yards. He also returned seven punts for 35 yards and 15 kickoffs for 303 yards.

A two-time first-team All-Mid Eastern Athletic Conference selection for the Bears, Bryant (6-5, 229 pounds) produced 44 receptions for 677 yards and four touchdowns in 34 games. He is projected to line up at wide receiver in the NFL after playing tight end in college.

In corresponding roster moves, the Panthers waived wide receivers Wes Kemp and Chris Manno. Kemp had been signed as an undrafted rookie free agent from Missouri following the NFL Draft in April, and Manno had joined the team as a free agent in March.

Looks like they're just rotating WRs out to see if anyone sticks.

TBD... He has a workout scheduled in Miami... I doubt we go after ocho, but the way this teams hungry for a WR you never know. I just wish I knew whether or not Smitty is lobbying for Ocho... It's common knowledge that they were college team mates... Who knows? Stay glued to twitter and ESPN I guess

I will keep a lookout for Panther updates.

Although I'm a little late in the game on all the comments, I'm dumbfounded to read all the negativity surrounding Chris Manno! Do any of you who are just trashing the guy even know a lick about him? How many of you have ever played professional football, let alone been given a chance like he has to play? The guy's got raw athleticism and a work ethic that would put most of you to shame. How do I know? Because I personally know him on a professional, as well as personal level. A few years ago, he and I both tried out for two of the same professional indoor football teams, and I've seen first hand what he's capable of. How many football players are there these days that you would just want to punch in the teeth because they can't keep their mouth shut.....constantly yapping about how good they are? Chris isn't like that! He's humble but talented and sure won't show up on any police scanners as guys like Kenny Britt or Dez Bryant have....talk about talent being wasted. And sure, he may not have the size that other WRs do, but it's his work ethic and ability that have gotten him this far. How many guys actually make the final roster and turn out to be a bust later on? Someone will see what he's worth and pick him up, I'm sure of it!
