Quitting football to play "Call of Duty"?

Call of duty is fun, but it's like madden. When you pick one of em up ull prolly sink a ton of time into it. Thing is a new one comes out every year and its appeal starts to wear off. The campaign modes are pretty crappy but it's a uber popular online shooter due to it's crisp controls and fast pace.

I put a lot of time into Modern Warfare 1 and 2 but can't seem to get back into the game with the newer installments. I don't think its the game quality, just the fact that i wore out the appeal of the general gameplay.

If you have an actual life I recommend staying away from it. It's initial addiction is similar to most MMORPGs and it will really mess with ur daily schedule. It doesn't have much substance either, its purely reliant on its gameplay mechanics (which are great) but if you like adventure type games - atmospheric, things to explore and uncover, a plot to keep you progressing, dynamic gameplay (maybe some puzzles, driving stages, mini games etc) - then you probably won't like CoD.

All of the games youre talking about are designed like that:

Heres a scary fuggin article about it. http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3085/behavioral_game_design.php?page=1

It's sad but parents will continue buy their kids games that they want no matter how shitty they arem but CoD, and WoW arent bad games, theyre polished and do what they want to do well. If thats someones escape then so be it. I hate when I hear stories about people ruining their lives on that poo, but I have no pity for someone that chose that over everything else in this country to be grateful for.

I got myself one of these with the MvC2 artwork on it. Without a doubt the best game related purchase i ever made. The stick and buttons are just... so damn good, the box is gorgeous and all the neat little features that come with it are just so handy.

I like Fruit Ninja

There is really no point in arguing over which is better. I will say it's shocking to see the amount of money poured into tournaments for PC games. I've always thought of it as a deviant culture but millions of people play games and watch streaming tourneys. Some people want to veg out for 3 hours on a Friday night. Others make games their life. Mr. Friday night is probably going to find success in life in the more traditional way.

Ive actually read this article before. In fact in school (comp sci major) for a game design course one of the key facets we do is analyze algorithms to generate addictiveness in gameplay. I only mentioned 2 games so idk what ur talking about, of course they are designed like that lol.

Uhh thats why tournaments for Starcraft 2 and League of Legends have millions of dollars in prize pools along with elaborate arenas, professional shoutcasters and extravagant shows and entertainment before matches? PC gaming in general is considered far superior to console gaming in terms of competitive play (with the exception of fighting games, but even so pretty much all those guys use an arcade stick rather than a gamepad). If you dig console gaming thats totally fine, MOST people prefer it over PC gaming. PCs are expensive and can be complicated to work with. Please don't make ill informed comments about how using keyboard/mouse/joystick is behind the times, the reason these devices are still the most preferred is reliability and control. In fact most "pro" console gamers mod their pads, often times using stick extenders to give them similar control that a joystick would.

The only games that have a legitimate competitive scene in console gaming are Capcom 2d fighters (street fighter, MvC, SFxT), smash brothers (outdated), Halo and CoD. Even in the world of shooters Quake 3 Arena and Counterstrike still have larger and more legitimate communities than the more modern console counterparts.

Blah, blah, blah. I'm a casual gamer, not a professional gamer. There is a difference between professional gaming and competitive gaming (with a little '"c"). The reason why COD is the most popular franchise ever is due to console gamers. You PC types are highlighting your gamer snobbishness and nerdiness. There are hundreds of thousands of people on PSN and XBL right now playing simply for the love of the game, and these communities (including the kids) are as legitimate as any PC community. It's somewhat like how mac people talk about pc people.

That StreetFighter gadget looks cool (if not cumbersome), but the Vita is cooler. A console that in some instances can play a console. How cool is that?

BTW, many people talk poo about COD because they can't handle the breakneck pace. It's not meant to be a simulation, it's meant to maximize action, interaction, and competition.
