Griffin vs Newton

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Brady or Manning couldn't hurdle or juke or truck if their life depended on it and they have done just fine. This is silly.

Every time we have an athletic quarterback have any success in the NFL, talking heads go off about them "changing the game" as if we've never had such a thing before. Frankly, the whole discussion gets a little silly.

There have been quarterbacks who could also run since way, way, waaaaay back (Tarkenton, for example). It's not anything new. Of the bunch we've had, you could argue Steve Young was probably the best true "dual threat".

Beyond that, what hasn't changed (and isn't likely to) is that you still have to be a good passer first to have NFL level success. Doesn't matter if you're the fastest runner on the field. If you can't pass well, you're not going to make it as a quarterback, no matter how many highlight reel plays you put up on Sportscenter.

Newton is poised for success because he can pass. The running ability just makes him more dangerous. RG3 will also be a success if he proves he can be an effective passer first. Otherwise he'll be another "heavy on the highlight reels / light on playoff success" type like we've seen before.

Personally, I hope he makes it. My own take is that Newton will ultimately be the better of the two, but obviously I'm a tad biased.

When it comes to the running, it's the immense size that helps Cam so much. Vick gets hurt all the time from running. RG3 might or might not, but he certainly doesn't have Cam's frame to withstand those hits. Cam is bigger than many of the linebackers that hit him.

RGIII will get hurt... he oddly runs into contact not away

No he's not Mr. Scot. Having a slighly stronger arm does not make you a better passer. GR3's accuracy is off the charts plus he has a rocket of an arm as well. I would put RG3's skills against Cam's anyday. The only thing Cam has over Griffin is size and strength. but its not like Giffin is a pipsqueak.

I've come to the conclusion Redskins fans think RG3 is already number 1 in the NFL's top 100, the best QB of all time, and the best athlete of all time, shoot his accuracy is already better then Aaron Rodgers. Skins fans are complete and utter morons.

Which is admirable, but dangerous. That's why Darren McFadden gets hurt a lot. He looks for a guy to plow into at the end of every run. That stuff will take its toll eventually.

He doesn't want to be known as a running QB, but he does run. Doesn't want to be known as a mobile QB either.

He has to prove that. Cam already has, he's proven he's not just any of those labels. He's on a league of his own. Cam's created a new label. Not sure what it is though. Don't know what term would be the accurate one.

Yeah, I would wish him luck if Carolina Skins fans weren't retarded and said hes already better then Cam (this has actually happened), hes got better accuracy then Cam (no lie, this has happened entirely too many times), or some Skins fan overrating him (this seems to happen almost on a daily basis). So, sorry RG3, I hope you become a complete bust sir. Thank your retarded and ignorant fans. qpbqw.png

Ah hyperbole...

Look, I don't have anything against Griffin but to proclaim that "there's never been an athlete quite like him" in the NFL is absurd. Do you know how many guys playing in the NFL could have been Olympians if they chose to focus on an Olympic sport instead of the NFL? The answer is MANY of them are that caliber of athlete, so having Olympian caliber athleticism doesn't make you anything special in the NFL.

Second of all, we have yet to see RG3 compete in the NFL, so can we please pump the breaks on the hype just a little bit until we actually see him play? I don't care how good he looks in OTA's, that means NOTHING when it comes to performing in games. For all we know, the kid could end up being a total bust or at the very least a huge disappointment. I can easily see RG3 being the next Alex Smith... maybe we should start with seeing if he can be better than that?

Cam's success last year was so exceptional in large part BECAUSE of the long track record of spread-option QB's failing miserably at the NFL level. Now that Cam did what he did, everyone assumes that the league has somehow changed and now spread-option QB's can be successful, so everyone is looking for the next Cam while ignoring the fact that Cam is a HUGE exception thus far.

Let's be honest, the Skins would have been roasted for giving up what they gave up to draft RG3 in any year prior to last year, before Cam showed the league how well a spread-option QB could potentially translate. The thing that is overlooked in the discussion about Cam is that he wasn't always a spread-option QB... as a H.S. recruit he was thought of as a pocket passer, his mobility was a pleasant surprise.

I'm not even going to bother with direct comparisons to Cam until I actually see this kid play in a few games. Right now, there is no valid comparison to a player who just completed one of the greatest (if not the greatest) rookie seasons in the history of the NFL.

In addition to all the forces working against any rookie QB, RG3 has the misfortune of having been drafted by a VERY unstable organization and this alone could ruin his chances of being successful in the NFL.

Look, hes a good kid and I respect him as a person. But, when your fans say stupid things like above and the dude has yet to play a down in the NFL. I'm sorry if it would honestly be awesome to see the Skins have a 5 year set back because he becomes a bust.
