Griffin vs Newton

Mr. Scot

Dude almost made the Olympic track team as a runner.

He is probably faster than young VIck, but there is more to being an athlete than speed. Agility, body control, improvisational skills, etc. I think they are both in the same league as athletes. If RG3 is a better athlete it isn't by a wide enough margin to warrant the line quoted in the OP.

So RG3 has expressed that he doesn't want to be known as an "option quarterback" (link) which brings up a discussion that's been had on here numerous times, and generally leads to people saying stupid things.

Rehashing that discussion doesn't really interest me much. What does interest me about this particular item from the unmentionable site is this sentence from Michael David Smith.

Now, Newton and Griffin don't quite have the same athletic profile (Griffin is 3 inches shorter and 30 pounds lighter) but I'm wondering what Panther fans have to say about Smith's proclamation that there's "never been an athlete quite like Griffin". Especially as it pertains to our own quarterback.

RGIII is more like Vick. I don't think RGIII fits the "there has been nothing like him before" mold like Newton. If Vick was more accurate and less agile.... he would basically be RGIII

I'm really hesitant to project college passing numbers to the pros. I know scouts have to do it on a certain level, but they usually have qualifiers (level of competition, type of scheme, etc).

If you went purely on numbers you'd have expected guys like Colt Brennan and Timmy Chang to set the league on fire. Obviously they didn't.

As far as running skills, I'd say Griffin might be harder to catch but Newton would be harder to bring down.

Whether or not Griffin succeeds? He seems like an ultra-nice kid so I hope he does. Just not set to predict it though. Not much truly relevant data to go on at this point.

The only think Chang ever ranked high in was pass attempts and interceptions. He's the all time leader in interceptions thrown and had a pretty bad completion percentage.

No, RG3 has straight line speed. you don't see ankle breaking jukes from him. Vick has those nasty moves that no one can replicate. RG3 will be real good throwing the ball though

Well, I'd expect him to be good at jumping over people.
