Griffin vs Newton

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Not true, Unless Luck breaks all of Cam's rookie records, he will never be what Cam can be. Dude was the front runner for two Heismans and lost to Cam and then Griffin.

Everyone had Luck listed as the best QB coming out in the last decade. I think Cam has already proven that wrong.

I must say that I wasn't surprised when I saw the thread title, but my jaw about dropped to the floor when I saw the author.

"Nooooooo, not Mr. Scot!"

Well, I'll grant I probably could have chosen a better title

But like I said, it's mainly about the quote from MDS. Has there really never been an athlete quite like Griffin at QB, including Newton?

Said it before, will say it again: if the Redskins run Griffin a lot then they are trying to kill him.

He is fast, and that's it. He doesnt have good running vision, is an upright runner with surprisingly poor elusiveness, and often runs into contact rather than away from it.

Let him be a passer only.

C'mon man you talking about comparing Hawaii to real schools. I'm just saying all things being equal Griffin performed better than Luck. In fact, Griffin I believe was offered a Scholly to Stanford. Luck may have never gotten off the bench.

It's not just Hawaii. In the past I've looked up both Heisman winners and leading NCAA passers and found no correlation between either stat and pro success (especially with the Heisman).

It really is a different animal at the pro level.

My own take: I don't necessarily see it as a slight to Newton - maybe to Vick - but I do think it's a bit of an exaggeration (which honestly is not that unusual for sportswriters).

That's what I thought when I read the article. Newton and RG3 just aren't similar athletes. Vick and RG3 on the other hand are. Vick is an amazing athlete. Early in his career when he was lighting up the Panthers he was relying entirely on athletic ability. He had a lot of NFL success without really working at it (by his own admission). RG3 is certainly a better QB than Vick was coming out of VT, but I find it hard to believe he is that much better of an athlete than a young Vick.

Don't know about "passer only" but if he wants to succeed in the pros he will have to be a passer first.

Have said it many times...

Quarterbacks that can both pass and run are gold.

Quarterbacks that can pass but can't run are silver.

Quarterbacks that can run but can't pass are fool's gold.

Sounds to me like that makes RG3 vermeil

Dude almost made the Olympic track team as a runner.

I keep wondering how many others remember Renaldo Nehemiah (not a quarterback, of course).

Better question: How many remember the Olympic athlete who was a fixture on the Panthers roster a while back?

Anybody notice so far this offseason, we haven't heard any reports from Indy regarding Luck. I haven't seen or at least don't remember one recent article on the Huddle about Luck.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Colts are keeping a tight lid on things.

I did see a report where he couldn't be at a recent OTA because he was studying for finals.
