your 5th grader did NOT graduate!

The little bastid got promoted, he's going to the 6th grade next year...congrats. But he did NOT graduate.

My facebook feed is full of freakin' mommies celebrating their 3rd graders graduation. Cheese and rice, this is the same type of thinking that has awards days where every kid gets an award. God forbid that we expect these kids to EARN something.

High school graduation should be an accomplishment the is celebrated but I think it's cheapened just a bit when we have a cap and gown ceremony for kindergarten, middle school, blah blah blah.

What's a freakin' 5th grade diploma look like? Got a picture of Barney on it?

Hey ass clown, my kid is autistic, so we take events like that seriously. As I am sure other parents that are there supporting there kids do as well. Fug you.....that is all and as far as if you are talking about my chap because of the thread I posted yesterday, call him a basterd to my face and see what happens.....guarantee you will find all you are looking for...bitch

I have requested that my daughter be retained for the 8th grade. She simply isn't ready for HS.

It has taken an act of congress. I hope to have an answer today.

I see both sides, I am a little sick of the nonstop award dinners, meetings, outings, etc. that are there mostly to raise money. But the kids like being able to let loose after a year of EOG prepping, or dance rehearsals, etc. Their attention spans are a lot shorter than ours usually as well so more frequent positive reenforcement of good work is probably not a bad thing overall.

Not a big fan of grade school graduations. Even less so of the whole "everybody gets an award / let's not keep score / don't hurt their self-esteem" silliness that you see in so many places these days.

Wouldn't want to minimize anyone's proud moment, but I think the overall concept is a bad idea.

And frankly, I find making parents pay for award dinners to be heinous. If your child accomplished something, you shouldn't have to pay to see them get their accolades.

They are moving up to a different school. Let the kids have their day.

Does your life suck so much that this bothers you? If so.....no one cares.

I don't have a problem with it as long as the a/c is on. It was hot as hades in the gym Wed morning when my daughter had hers. Oh, and my butt went numb from sitting on the bleachers without my cushion thingy I didn't think to take.
