Man stabbed outside Monroe Walmart for stealing parking spot

MONROE, N.C. —

Monroe police are searching for a man who stabbed another man in an apparent road-rage incident.

Investigators said George Gilchrist had just parked at the Walmart on West Roosevelt Boulevard in Monroe on Sunday afternoon when he was attacked.

"He pulled into (a) parking space, got out and (a) gentleman began to approach him, yelling at him, claiming he had stolen his parking space," said Monroe Sgt. Mike Smith.

Police said the man then began attacking Gilchrist, and pulled out a knife, cutting Gilchrist in the knee and hand.

"It's very rare we see these incidents wind up in a face-to-face confrontation," Smith said.

The suspect took off, and Gilchrist went to the hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.

Surveillance cameras at the Walmart failed to capture video of the incident, but police said the suspect is described as a white male with glasses, dressed in a red T-shirt and jeans, seen driving a black truck.

Anyone with information should call Monroe police.
