No.2: Kidd-Gilchrist or Drummond

Recommended Posts

Safest or Riskiest Player

Yes sir! Right now, I'm down to two players for the no.2 pick if we do keep it. It's either Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (SF), the safest player for the no.2 pick imo, or Andre Drummond the high risk-high reward kid. As all of yall have known I'm the highest Kidd-Gilchrist bandwagoner in this forum. But, as day passes by and trying to watch few game highlights of these prospects when I can, I'm wondering to myself if it's best for us to take a chance on a player like Drummond. MKG is the safest player who plays hard every games and will potentially get better as a shooter in the NBA, but a player like Drummond is too much to not like. A great potential player who has a NBA ready body and amazingly gifted athletic abilities. Only questions about Drummond are, how hard will he go out every night and does he really love the game of basketball.

I have cut my list of potential players for our no.2 spot, which included guys like Thomas Robinson, Harrison Barnes, and Bradley Beal to MKG and Drummond. I believe that these are the two best players we should take as our pick. With a high lottery pick as ours, we should take the "safest" or "the riskiest" prospect. Either you BOOM or you BUST. It's that easy and no questions ask. The safest player is always the one who'll guarantee you that you made the right decision, but may not "wow" you. The riskiest player is the one who you are closing your eyes when picking him, but potentially can become that franchise superstar for your team and you'll look like a genius 10 years from now by picking him. So, to me its down to the safest or the riskiest two players.

This Drummond scenario has been bothering me recently b/c of all the Roy Hibbert's talk in here. I just want to say, I'll be the first guy to come out and say, "there is no way Hibbert is a Bobcats next year!". I don't get where all of you people are coming up with this idea of we picking Hibbert up. That is nothing but a wishful thinking. Go and ask any expert, someone who covers for the Bobcats, or a sports writer and they would be laughing their a** off. It doesn't matter how much $$$bling- bling$$$ we throws at Hibbert. A veteran player of that sort wants to win also. Yes, "WIN". Have we forgot about "winning"? Some of yall may have due to the fact and experience of seeing the Bobcats sucking so much. But, every players would like to have a ring by the end of their career. Veterans players know we're not going to win anytime soon and is in a full major rebuilding mode. Not a place to win now for a player like Hibbert. Indiana knows how important Hibbert is for them and is also one of the few teams to have a good amount of cap space, so they will do all in thier own power to retain him. Teams like Boston will try and make a run for him if KG and Allen are not back. Unless the Bobcats are willing to throw 20 -23 mil. of that possible 26 mil. of cap space that we have, he's not wearing Orange and Blue next season. So quit it.

This comes to play with the Drummond scenario b/c I believe that if we decides to take the big man over MKG. Risking our future for a high-risk player instead of the safe one, we could be better off next year. Drummond will solidfy the "Center" position in a heart beat, which is one of our biggest need on the team and will benefit Biyombo by moving him to the PF position. With that said, with our huge cap space, if MJ wants to at least be a bit competitive to win next season or even try to help build this franchise faster, we could use some of that money to sign a young SF or SG. Guys like OJ Mayo and Eric Gordon are RFA who I think we could get one of them for cheaper than Hibbert. So Drummond with a guy like Mayo or Gordon would really help us for next year than the scenario of MKG and no such thing of a Hibbert. That's me for the day. Thanks.

Examples of possible line ups:

PG: DJ/Kemba

SG: Henderson

SF: OJ Mayo

PF: Biyombo

C : Drummond/Mullens

or

PG: DJ/Kemba

SF: Gordon

SF: Tyrus Thomas

PF: Biyombo

C : Drummond/Mullens

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (SF)

6'8" 228 lbs

Great defender and rebounder and will better his shooting at the next level. Good leader with a great attitude for the game.

Andre Drummond ©

6'10" 270 lbs

High risk-high reward kid who could be the next Bynum or the next Kwame. Very, very athletic big man who if its humble enough and works harder can be something special. Amazingly talented with the ball in his hands in high school. Had some nice games but mostly poor ones at UCONN.

Im starting warm up on the idea of selecting Andre Drummond. If he reaches his potential and Biyombo reaches his potential as well, that would be one heck of a front court. They both can play PF and C as well.

We'll see.

    • With all the money invested in the offensive line, we really need to hit on some Round 1-3 picks.  We could really use a star receiver or pass rusher on a rookie contract for a few years.
    • I understand everyone being happy but let's try not to turn it into another schoolgirl crush festival. No offense. It isn't slower WRs that cause wild overthrows. They have all kinds of practice. It is his mechanics keeping things under control that allows a more efficient conversion of energy, let's call it, into the throw, that we are seeing.  He was doing it with horrible mechanics and needing to put 100% effort to get the ball that far. That totally fugs your accuracy. There is video of Mahomes and Carr on this site that I have linked with them throwing under control vs all out trying to get the most velocity on a radar gun. It shows exactly what I am saying. I didn't make it up. I have been telling y'all for a year at least. It really is all about the margins with Young and he has to be very attentive to his technique to get the most from what he has. He is doing that now and this is the new 'what he can do'. And this is it, there ain't no more. You decide if that's enough for you I guess. But you are noticing better ball flight and zip I am pretty sure, it comes from there. Again go look at the Buffalo drive in preseason and you will see that same thing you see lately. To do that stuff you have to be willing to stand tall come what may, sometimes. Hopefully you have protection to step up safely but the difference making happens when you stand in there and finish just ahead of a hit.  ..... And btw, the straw that broke the camel's back when Tepper fired Reich, was because he couldn't fix it in a week. One of the last issues that I remember was about Young's footwork. You know, I guess it is normal that 10 weeks into the season someone just realized, or finally accepted, that Young had major fundamentals issues. It took them a lot longer to realize it isn't an overnight fix. And my issues with Young were specifically over this stuff. Major rehab job, you don't pay what we paid for that. Hopefully he is 'fixed' and it 'took' and he doesn't go back into his little safe space of the old mechanics like he did week 1. If he hangs with the new, this is what you are working wth now. We just saw his ceiling.
    • i'm not nearly 100%, but i'm trending that way. He's definitely got me around 75%.
