Now, as for who replaces Andretti in the #34, I could see Almirola running one or both, Stephen Leicht, Brad Keselowski possibly at Lowes(since he is running the #25 at Darlington), or even the remote possibity Bryan Clauson. I think Almirola is the strongest possibility though.

Mark Martin is 15th in the Cup standings, 8 points ahead of 16th place Vickers, so...yea.

And his pit crew screwed the pooch in Atlanta and cost him a win.

I think Mark Martin will be in because he started the School of Consitency....and taught to Matt Kenseth....

now if he could teach it to Junior and co. ..lol

Possibly, but the #5 car has been terribly inconsistent so far this year.

Vickers has had an abnormal amount of early bad luck too(caught up in the wreck near the end of Daytona, pit crew sucking at life yet again and costing him a win at Atlanta, having to start at the back at Fontana after being the pole, missing pit road at Richmond and falling a lap behind).

about that 5 car....... after almost being out of the top 35 4 races in look who is now 11th . yeah he might not stay there, but the guy has the car for the 1st time to win it all. he isn't in his prime but i will pull for viagra man to win it all. 50+, and still showing the young guns what a gentleman racer is all about. not only that, he shows you dont have to be a prick in the car or out to win.

i think fo the guys in the top 12, that 2 car is looking weaker and weaker. they are primed for a big drop imo. they are so inconsistant throught a race, if they catch more bad stretchs at the end of races they wont be there.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if he WASN'T in the Chase this year. Only reason why he isn't higher in the rankings is two blown engines and being caught in the Big One.

That, and although Martin's not the top star of HMS (that's Gordo and Jimmy), he's not the black sheep operation either (Junior).

Penske's strenghts is on the 1.5+ mile speedways. If Kurt starts struggling at places like Lowes, Michigan, and Pocon, then he's in trouble. Otherwise, I'd say he should be in the Chase.

about the 5: that was said to be the dead car of the hendrick group after last year, the busch blowup and all. personally i never thought so. its rick hendrick, he fields the best cars, and people buy top notch from him, why have a sub quality car and teams? others thought mark was done as he couldnt do as well last year as a part timer in jrs old ride. goes to show how seat time and top car helps a good driver. also shows that a good car and team wont do well without a good driver (mears in the 07, 5, 42).

as for penske: sam has done better this year. i hope he gets 1 or 2 more to improve, he has shown alot so far. even though he has been good so far at the 1.5 milers, but there are a host of cars that have had bad luck right there. not sold on penske being back (remember when everyone thought kahne was back after lowes?).

    • We had a good solid draft and didn't give up any future picks gotta love it
    • I think what he is saying is that we went from mediocre to joke status--a virtual bottom feeder. Sure, we've never been a top tier team on a consistent basis, but we went to the Bowl twice (under JR). Tepper made some bad decisions, but, perhaps unlike others, I absolutely know that it takes time to figure things out, and it has to be super difficult to be a "boss" in one business, and then going through the process and realizing that you are a virtual greenhorn in another.  At least we seem to be headed in the right direction. We'll see come this fall.
    • It was a combination of Fifita regressing this year and losing the coaching staff we had in 23, now how much was his regression also directly due to the staff change or were they separate issues that then compounded each other, who knows. Part of it was also that the new staff wasn't able to replace Jacob Cowing, who was a 4th round pick by the 49ers last year and in 23 tied T-Mac for I think it was 9th in the nation in catches with 90, or our TE Tanner McLachlan who was a 6th round pick by the Bengals. Without that 2nd and 3rd legitimate receiving threat (plus, it didn't help that our running game was hurt because the Arizona RB who got drafted this year only played the first game of the season then eligibility questions popped up and he was out the rest of the season) our entire offense was built around T-Mac and it made game planning for opposing defenses very simple, throw everything and the kitchen sink at T-Mac and force Arizona to beat you through other players, which we couldn't do. It didn't stop T-Mac from still putting up elite stats, but it severely hurt our team's offensive success, and thus, how Fifita looked. I also made a long post in the main 40+ page T-Mac selection thread last night that touched on his summer injury and how it MIGHT have affected him this past season, as well as some of the Fifita and coaching change stuff if you want to go look at that one.  I never brought the injury up in all the draft discussions because I didn't want to look like I was making excuses for him, but I do think it somewhat affected him at times this year too.
