Blackmon dui

Recommended Posts

The kid made a dumb ass decision and will pay for it. I'm just wondering why cant it be left at that. Why do we have to make broad statements about athletes because of what 1 does? Ryan Leaf got arrested twice THIS YEAR and it was a story, but I didnt see people here trying to make sweeping generalizations about it, or use his troubles to stand on a self righteous soap box like we see here.

Ryan Leaf is a nut job. I don't know of anyone who doesn't already know that. There is no use in delving into his personality flaws anymore.

Blackmon is just beginning his career and the Jaguars have invested a lot more in him. He's a much more interesting topic of discussion here for that reason. I'm not saying Blackmon has a problem, but 2 DUIs before he has ever played a game in the NFL seems to indicate its a possibility. I like Justin a lot and I think he's a good kid. He does a lot of good things, but it is possible he may have a drinking problem.

Actually I think the Panthers provide one of these driving services for their players.

How would that benefit play into the Salary Cap? Seems paying for something like that is like compensation....it would be taxable income.

Interesting

It could be a benefit provided by the team. If my company provides me coffee I dont have to pay taxes on it....I also am out of my league when it comes to what is taxable and what is not.

The research says that people who get 2 DWIs are either very unlucky or very likely to have a drinking problem. Lets be honest, lots of folks have had a DWI, but once you get one and realize the consequences for another offense like losing your license for a year with no chance to get it back, potential jail time, etc, most everyone but people with significant drinking problems make other arrangements to find transportation when they go out drinking. And lets be real here, A guy who blows above a .15 who is Blackmon's size and has been drinking over a 5 hour period likely had at least a 12 pack of beer or 12 drinks. Anytime I expect to drink that much I am not going to drive a car. Did he drink alone or with friends?? I wonder why they didn't offer a ride.... Lets hope he was not the most sober.................

Glad to know King Taharaq condones drinking and driving. It's just more validation for us to call him a dumbass and adds to his lengthy rap sheet as the worst poster on this board.

You should be ashamed of yourself for defending such a criminal.

What if Blackmon got all liquored up, ran a red light, and hit Mom Taharaq while she was walking across the street?

Leaf has a disease and it's obviously getting the best of him.

He's headed to jail and his life is in jeopardy unless he gets the help he needs.

I always think of this guy when I hear anything about Blackmon. Don't know why.

Not many will like this but this crime or at least Justin's crime was victimless.

No one here can say that he would have killed anyone. Of course he could have. I have to drive later today and could also kill someone with bad judgement. If I was drunk and blowing a .15 statistics show that I will have more of a probability to kill someone or injure myself but those are just statistics. Statistics are a sampling. They show probability but cannot predict the future. Most any statistic, including those about drinking and driving, can be debated. For example: Yes we know how many accidents there are in a year and yes we typically know how may were alcohol related. What we do not know is how many drunk drivers it takes to cause one alcohol-related accident. Why don't we? Because we have no idea how many drunks make it home safely every night.

I can go to the pub and knock back enough to blow a .07 and drive home fine. I can even get stopped and I will be let go. I can stay for one more and drive home fine. If I go through a license check I may go to jail for that extra drink. If I don't go through a license check, no one is the wiser. Yet technically I am a drunk driver and everyone on the road around me is in peril. This is how black and white the law is yet no two body chemistry, size, or tolerance is the same.

I hope the guy gets help, as in, I hope he gets a driver, but there is no reason to believe that he is nothing but a scumbag from here on out based on two DUI's.

And please spare me the judgement or the personal horror stories. I have my own and for the record I am not advocating anything of speaking from personal habit. Just that the law and the media who sensationalize those who break it are fundamentally flawed. Way too many people make judgment without knowing the facts.
