Headline Tag: J-Stew Wants to Remain a Panther

I love Stewart. But, if this team commits that much cap space in the RB position, it will be a HUGE long term mistake.

Agreed. So many needs in other areas. If they can't come up with a number that works and the Panthers can live with, trade him.

I hate that bullshit about extending careers by being running back and splitting carries.

The magic number is 30, after that is by the grace of god that they can still start, and contribute on a weekly basis.

Stop going full retard on this one.

DWill will do what benefits him and his family the most.....like 99% of players.

D-Lo doesn't have to take a paycut to restructure...and we've had several players( last season and beyond) restructure to provide cap relief, so we could get deals done. It happens league wide every year.

The reality is they thought the cap would be higher in 2014 and beyond and that is why they signed Williams to what they did. They admitting not knowing 2014 would be flat. Now they have to go to plan B to figure out what to do. I hope they will figure it out. We will see.

Yeah, bc throwing tons of guranteed cash at an aging RB vs making him earn it is smart business.

What Carolina will be doing if they keep the backfield intact doesn't happen every day. Teams don't invest those dollars at the RB spot (or draft picks) they rather spending it elsewhere.

Williams, Tolbert, Cam is a fearsome ground attack. They choose their RB. If Stewart gets a deal then Carolina makes a small mistake bigger. Need to invest more elsewhere

My guess is you'll continue to be mad at Hurney, because I think he'll find away to pay Stewart. I don't think Hurney gives a rats ass about investing too much money at one position( LB???) If he wants the man on the team he will find the money to pay him. He's proven time and time again that he will give up big contracts, to his drafted players and doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks about it...

Yes he does, and it's one of the reasons I have wanted him gone for years.

Overvaluing the RB and LB positions in todays NFL.

This, is another reason I have wanted him gone.

Whoops, we thought things would be different, move along, nothing to see here, pay for your PSL's, miss the playoffs.....

I think most teams didn't know that they essentially borrowed against the 2014 cap to keep this years cap from going down. By the time they let the teams know Hurney had already signed Williams. I am not sure it was his fault. Seems we are still finding out things about the CBA which are just now bring explained.

Hurney will continue to manage cap with creative methods though. Whether that means trading away draft high draft picks to reduce the number of big salaries we take (not as effective as it used to be), trading out a vet for a prospect, or restructuring.

I think I would be consdering how difficult it will be to replace what Stew does for us. He is fantastic but he may not make the full impact for us that he potentially can. . . . so how difficult is it to replace "what he does for us" and not so much "what he could do for us"?

edit: I think theyll let him sit and wait for the big contract on the premise that D-Lo got a big contract. They will basically in one way or another tell Stew. . look we want you with us, heres what can give you for now, but if you stick around we'll pay you big time. If he walks he walks.

If Hurney pays Stewart then that is dumb.

Hurney should of gone with Fox. New era, can't keep doing everything like we use. Passing league. Need to invest elsewhere. Best way to help Cam win a Superbowl is investing in the D, then passing attack.
