Jimmy Clausen Showing Improvement?

What a bunch of idiots.

you guys want to keep a handful of great running backs and would never want to trade one, but are so insecure I suppose about Cam, that all you can do is hate on our backup QB and if he does get better, can only think of trading him. No way we can have two good QB's, what are you afraid of? Having good backups at every postion could be critical.

Insecurity is showing

Are we going to a two QB system or something?

I like how people say, "Clausen never had a chance to succeed."

Maybe I could understand that for someone like Bradford who was actually successful at college. But Clausen was never very good at Notre Dame, that is why he fell to the 2nd round. The only reason people liked him is because he played in a prostyle offense. But he has a very limited skillset and lacks the ability to get the ball down the field. He basically just threw up jumpers to Floyd and Tate a lot.

Besides, the coaching staff had nothing to do with Clausen making some of the pitiful throws he made in 2010. He threw some absolute floaters. Maybe he can be a decent backup but he will never be a good starter in the NFL. I knew that when he came out. He just lacks the talent.

He shredded teams his junior season. Absolutely shredded them. He was fantastic at ND, but he acquired the 'doesn't know how to win' tag because he didn't play MLB as well as QB. That D was fuging awful.

Production wise, yes, but it isn't like the competition was that great and he had some fantastic talent surrounding him in Floyd, Tate, and Rudolph. I don't care if he didn't win or not. Watching him play though, I never came away impressed. He looked very good on the underneath stuff but failed to ever push the ball down the field with much velocity behind his throws. Very concerning because velocity is critical. If that area of your game is well below average, the best you can become is a Chad Pennington and that is assuming you are anywhere near as accurate as him. And even with Pennington, his offenses were always limited and stood very little chance in the postseason (see: '08).

Clausen just doesn't have an NFL arm. That is why you see him having such an awkward and uncomfortable throwing motion because he is trying to pull everything into his throws. But they continually sail, thus making him feel as if he has to restrict his game to the short area stuff. And when defenses know this, they begin to push their DBs up further and play primarily in the short area making it harder for the offense to do what they want. NFL teams knew this before the draft. That is why Clausen fell to the mid 2nd round and plenty of teams with needs at QB passed on him. His skillset is below average for an NFL QB and he doesn't seem to have the elite decision making or elite accuracy to make up for it.

It just really irks me when people say that he wasn't given a fair shake and act as if he doesn't deserve majority blame. Sure, his coaches were poor. But that doesn't change the fact he was still making pathetic decisions, pathetic throws, and didn't show he had the velocity to make the throw on the out, slant, 9, etc. routes. I wish him the best. But I don't think he has any future in the NFL as a starter.

we have to remember that Cam is a mobile qb...he's big, but he's gonna take a lot of hits that most

qb's won't. The possibility of injury is certainly there, so having 2 qb's who know the system and are

ready to step in is a bonus. Clausen can only improve.

Agreed, but that backup can't be Clausen. Sure, he might know the system, but he is a terrible fit for it. Our offense is based off Air Coryell. Asking Clausen to have to push the ball down the field consistently would be a nightmare. He is best fit for something like what San Fran or Seattle do. A short area passing game.

I really don't think that Jimmy was ever fully embraced here. I don't think the fans, coaches, or other players wanted him. You can't go from having a great all around awesome guy like Jake Delhomme to having a guy who comes off as a spoiled rich douche.

He was DOA. Never really had the support or cast Cam has. Davidson's play calling was infant like. Fox threw away the season with his late career "I don't give a fug" attitude. It was a circus. I don't blame the guy for not succeeding. I hope he finds a new home somewhere and I honestly hope the best for him. Should he be released or traded.

To be fair, Clausen was thrown to the wolves his rookie year by a coach who didn't care and an offensive system that was not molded to his talents.

Just how Matt Moore was for us and then how he was for the Dolphins (aka how he looked at the end of season for us one year when we thought he could actually be a starter).

Moore's stats were fairly impressive for how bad I thought he was after 2010. Is Clausen an amazing QB? No. Will he turn a locker room to his favor by simply existing? No.

Will he attach himself as a backup somewhere and one day randomly start a game a few years from now so we can make topics about him LOLing at how badly he does because, again, he will never be in a system that caters to his needs like someone would do for a starter?

Hell yeah... Hell yeah.

We all know the absurd circumstances from 2010. It's history though, no sense thinking what could have been. We need to get what we can for clausen or just cut him, this year. That's a roster spot that could be used elsewhere, he didn't even dress last year. No matter how jimmy turns out, his career here was doomed from the start.
