Otah's knee bothering him again

I don't think it's a matter of Otah being out of shape. I saw him a month ago and he looked to be in good shape for a man as big as he is.

Human knees generally speaking are not designed for the weight and abuse linemen endure. It's a wonder some guys play as long as they do.

I almost feel like Rivera is moving on- maybe it's best we as fans do too. I wish him well in his endeavors beyond the NFL. Otah was a good player the brief time he's been healthy.

He's certainly not the first pro player in his situation. Playing at the pro level requires a level of eliteness that is easily lost through injury, lack of conditioning, age, etc.

The NFL truly is not for long in most cases for that reason. Makes you realize how remarkable a career a guy like Smitty has had.

Maybe I'm wrong and it certainly would be foolish not to see what training camp brings, but this is the first time I truly think the end of the road has come for Otah. "Tweaking" his knee again without any real contact is bad. Hard to imagine he can make it through training camp much less the season. But the optimist in me endures. Good Luck #79

You're glad we picked up a G because out RT is hurt?

silalotu is almost certainly a starter at guard, which gives us the flexibility to move one of our free agency linemen out to tackle if necessary. campbell would be the logical choice, as he started his rookie season at RT for the raiders before being kicked inside. it gives you competition between bell, otah, and campbell at the RT position, which can only make everyone involved better and more motivated.

had we not drafted silatolu we might not have that option.

We don't need him anyway. Cam can just run around in circles and then throw it downfield. Offensive line is overrated when you have a mobile QB. As for the running game, once the opposing D adjusts for the passing game, you're running against less people at the line.

Obviously we want the best players at each position but offensive line isn't as significant as it would be if our QB was a pocket passer.

I'm still more worried about the defensive line. Nobody will save them.

Im glad we picked up what could be a monster of a guard because whether or not Otah plays this season our O line isnt getting any younger - if Amini pans out he will make the whole line better and that could really help us this year if Otah is gone.
