Panthers officially clear of Wharton's cap space

He’s been a tremendous player for us and he is a class act. It got to the point where in the big picture we decided it was a move we needed to make. We placed a June 1 designation on his release, which means we will carry his cap number until June 1, but Travelle is immediately able to negotiate and sign with another team.”

The June 1 designation will allow the Panthers to spread out the $3.7 million cap hit over the next two years.

I don't think we'll be signing any known FA's anytime soon, but it's still nice to have breathing room.

I hate that they overpaid him such that they had to cut him. If he had an appropriate contract he would certainly be a nice guy to keep around. Spectacluar? No....but generally solid and versatile.

Not a leading question, I just don't remember. Did they try to restructure him?

I don't know for absolute certain, but I remember hearing that they wanted to keep Wharton on the team, just not at starting Tackle money. I think a restructure was attempted and declined by Wharton.

I don't think so. He was a good player for us for a while, but these last two seasons he was quite sub par. He'd have to be willing to take a backup contract and position. I think Rivera wants the entire line revamped. No more reliance on Otah, replace our dead weight guards. Next up is finding Gross' heir who will probably hold down the RT until Gross is out.

Protecting Cam is the most important thing we can do. We need to give him time and minimize the hits he takes in the pocket. Cam is very good at lowering his shoulders when he takes off, the hits that worry me are the ones where he's standing in the pocket without any of his own momentum to mitigate some of the force.

makes sense

but his momentum doesn't mitigate the force, it only adds to it

but I see a point in getting blindsided or having someone fall into his legs

Better use it quick or Charlotte paper saying how cheap JR is again. I personally hold them responsible for our 2010 season.

Mental attitude is what makes a team and same thing tears it apart. Nufffff said

Goooo Panthers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
