Doc Watson Has Died

I first heard him in 1980 or 81 in Athens, Ga. I think it was in the Frog Pond Lounge. Not sure why we went there...but Doc and Merle were playing. I was in Athens about 2 years. Can't tell you about any other group there I heard (except REM...and I have a story about firing one of the original members).

I was a rock and jazz person. Doc, his son Merle, & co made an impression on me that I have not forgotten. Can't imagine Doc's sadness after Merle died.

Doc was a humble American music genius. So sad to hear he is gone.

very sad. America is relatively young compared to other countries. So it's really weird seeing people that pioneered the hodgepodge of styles to make something unique pass away.

I was born and raised in Boone and have been to every Merle Fest for 20 years, (my dad first took me when I was 8). You will be missed Doc.
