The Mini Camp Thread....(updated Sunday)

If Fox starts Brown at anywhere close to his current weight on opening day I'll castrate myself and sing in an all-male gospel choir.

That would be meeks for you there. He probably only needs to add 5 maybe 10 pounds to get into the starting lineup if he shows the potential we all think he has.

It's still Fox's defense. Meeks may get more control over the scheming and play calling (and I hope he does), but Fox will still have final say in regards to the depth chart. We've never had a starting DE under 275. And I'm including the likelihood that Johnson starts this season. Because Fox likes bigger DEs who are stout against the run.

So he needs to gain around 15 pounds at the least.

And if Meeks really is going to have that much control over the defense and decides to start Brown at 256 or close to it, it's going to be depressing watching him get Robert Mathis'd around the field on every running play.

That's great, we aren't the Redskins.

No, but we did just hire Ron Meeks, who is known for starting smaller, faster DE's, so I don't see how you can say that it will never happen.

Either way though, Brown will be playing a lot of snaps this year.

Again, you're assuming Meeks is getting total control over the defense. Fox has never been one to tell his coordinators, "Hey, have at it, I don't give a poo what you do as long as we win ballgames." He's still going to be heavily involved. And as long as that plays true I don't see Brown starting, baring him putting on more muscle and beating out stiff competition. I agree, he will get plenty of snaps regardless, but I'd feel much more comfortable seeing him coming in just on passing downs.

You know, that whole castration thing really only works if performed before puberty - oh wait... :D

You are presuming and working on pre-conceived notions, most of us do. You could be right, but then again, it's just as easy that you are wrong. It's been obvious to me that they think they are close and are pulling out all the stops, not because of the whole "hot seat" debate, (I really hate that debate), but because they think they are close. I say he gets major playing time on passing downs...
