The Mini Camp Thread....(updated Sunday)

i'm expecting training camp to be a whole lot more intense than in previous years. last year the attitude was good but i think this year it's going to be killer...very much reflecting the attitude of the largest personality out there, coach meeks.

he will be the tone setter for this year, imo.

Hard Knocks: Carolina Panthers

........we can only dream.

Hard Knocks: Carolina Panthers

........we can only dream.

So far the last two teams that were on Hard Knocks (Kansas City & Dallas) didn't make the playoffs. I know it's only a pattern of two seasons, but may be three with Bengals coming up next. I think Carolina should avoid Hard Knocks until the pattern is broken at least.

Well in all fairness we TECHNICALLY don't know what the contact level will be like in TC because TECHNICALLY there is no contact in minicamps. ;)

Yeah, I hear ya Fire, but the intensity we've seen in the minicamps leads to the assumption that training camp will be also. I'm just saying I hope it won't lead to an injury bug...

First of all. Thanks to EVERYONE who has posted what they've seen AND heard!

Especially thanks to you Scot, you always put in a lot of detail.

I definitely like what I'm reading and hearing about our coaching staff.

Last, don't see why anyone is concerned about where anybody is on the depth chart at this point, cause there is no real chart, specially concerning the rookies ~ until training camp.

Hey Bud!

How bout that D Williams ;)

I bet ya our Defense will be nothing but better now that the turd is gone too!

Couple of follow-ups related to earlier posts:

There was indeed a profile by Charles Chandler of DT Babatunde Oshinowo in the works: Charlotte Observer

The name Babatunde Oshinowo is shortened from the Panthers' defensive tackle's full Nigerian name of Babatunde Oluwasegun Temitope Oluwakorede Adisa Oshinowo. Some friends and teammates call him “Tunde” for short. Others call him “Baba,” while some Panthers players have labeled him “Bubba.”

I heard someone addressing "Bubba" on Saturday and wondered who they meant

Also regarding Ron Meeks and Richard Marshall, this from Gantt: Marshall hoping to capitalize on opportunity

It was interesting that when new defensive coordinator Ron Meeks talked about the “playmakers” on the Panthers roster, he never mentioned Marshall. With the team investing a second-round pick in a bigger corner in Sherrod Martin, and Marshall's' contract status (his contract expires after 2009), it's almost enough to make one wonder. More likely, it was just the new boss trying to remember on the fly all the names he had to work with, because later in the interview, Meeks said “Hopefully Richard Marshall will step up now and be a factor.”

If the offseason is any indication, he's doing just that.

Several teammates have remarked that the already-intense Marshall has taken on a new demeanor in workouts, approaching things with the same kind of tenacity which enabled DeAngelo Williams to make his step up in level last year.

And last, this from the latest Foxhole about returning to fundamentals: Back to Work

On how much Meeks is bringing from Indianapolis and incorporating into Carolina's defense: In this league there aren't too many new things. It's all pretty much the same, really. If anything we started from square one. We're doing some basic things right now in this mini-camp and putting the emphasis back on technique and fundamentals, which is kind of what you do at the beginning of every year. Other than somebody that looks different up there presenting it, it's still football in the National Football League.

So marshall contract is up after this season..What if he has a big year..And does not like the contract we give him..Then if would come down to peppers or marshall to tag

That's a fairly easy choice. Cover corners are easier to find then premiere pass rushers.
