The Mini Camp Thread....(updated Sunday)

no one said anything about a grudge. why would ther be a grudge.

from what scot and others said, coach wasn't about to let jake get away with not doing the drill right and made him do it over. jake's contract or status with the team or anything else wasn't going to keep him from coaching jake and correcting him.

lots of coaches would have let that slide if the player was an established vet and wasn't fighting for a position.

Thats exactly what you said; "

it sound like he isn't impressed with the contract that jake just signed

I said that was a big assumption....

and then Scott said;

From what I saw today, there's evidence.

I think its he isn't impressed with Jakes ability... which would make more sense.

but to speak about a contract being a reason a coach is "coaching hard" implies a grudge.

...just sayin....

I met Mr. Scot there. Hopefully I can post some pics and notes when I get home.

Couple of things off the top of my head...

Barnidge, Robinson and Moose got a lot of throws and all looked good.

RB Goodson really impressed Marshall and Harris with a wicked jump cut that was LT'esque.

Robinson and Beaver were the only two doing PR

Brown lines up a lot, all at LDE with Taylor taking many snaps on the right, don't know where Johnson was

Vincent looked fine at RG, completely recovered from the groin injury

QB Cantwell looked pretty good, nice footwork, crisp throws and decent velocity

Drat. Lost some of my work and I'm not going to be able to type again until later today (sorry folks).

I'll leave with this: We apparently have a new player since yesterday. He's an RB named Manson (yes, Manson) and wears #36. Not sure who was dropped to make room. Might have been one of the DBs.

Also, I'm wondering if Ron Meeks is going to be a bit tough on Richard Marshall (more on that later).

The fact that Dlinemen not practicing moves in the past disturbs me greatly.
i'm not surprised by that, though. i honestly can't remember them practicing any at TC either. i remember watching the drills that they did do and a lot of it was footwork but i really don't remember any moves or hand movements. the attention that they are paying to fundamentals both there and at QB now make me happy and sad at the same time. what were they doing?

every day i grow happier and happier with this new coaching staff and feel like they can do to the defense and QB what magazu has done with the Oline.

this alone makes me feel that we could win a couple more games than we should otherwise. still not saying 12-4 but the possibility of another losing or 8-8 record is becoming less and less remote.

these changes are coming at just the right time, imo.

    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
    • Logjam, indeed! Makes me nervous.
