honestly all the top-tier posters posting in exclusive forums is bad biz for the huddle. it is to zod's advantage to keep all the knowledgable posters keeping the quality of the main forums up as those are what the casual googler will come across, driving viewership and, ultimately, sign-ups.

some people are just idiots and will remain idiotic, but many posters, including myself, have become vastly more educated about football since joining, and it's because the smart, well-spoken huddlers mingle with the simpering fools whose posts resonate with all the intellectual firepower of a fuging cactus.

these types of special subforums are generally useful for 'leadership" tossing around ideas that others cannot just jump in on, discussing broader ideas, specific trolls, etc. and it's better that way.

After dealing with that fuging psycho SN03, I am grateful for this section.

I think if back healthy, McClain with his burst will start at UT.

Possibly Smith over Martin if Martin doesnt start.

Williams will continue at starting, of course preseason could change that. That minor detail to me doesnt really matter, they both see plenty of time.

Last year, Chud did a great job incorporating Cam's strenghts into the gameplan and style of offense. There is no need to change that, other than to expand and do even more. The more variety we have, the tougher we will be to defend. I can see us running a triple option but with a 3 back set, I would say more like only 5% at most. We have enough receiving threats not to have to rely on that somewhat trickery.

I dont know if we upgraded our secondary enough to be confident enough to run more man than zone, but we will see. The scheme we run can also be dictated by the team we are playing, so that could vary. If the secondary proves they can step up a little more this year, then yea, I could see us being more aggressive with blitzes both man and zone. We know thats what McDermett prefers anyway. I think teams will make us prove we can stop the run early.

So this got moved out of the Elders forum I see? I think McClain will start alongside Edwards at DT, if Edwards really is the type that can play the nose and absorb blockers, McClain can complement that. I actually thought Martin was SS and Godfrey was FS, but either way I expect Martin to lose his job, probably to Nakamura. I think Godfrey holds onto his. My guess is that the RBs will split carries about the same as last year, with Tolbert used as a 3rd down back. As far as schemes go, I think the offense will continue to show new wrinkles, but you can expect to see more of the shotgun formation from last year. I expect lots more blitzing from the defense.

1. No clue. Talent is too comparable right now....

2. I think Martin is the week 1 starter but likely gets beat out during the year. Godfrey as well.

3. DeAngleo is listed as true starter just like last year. He is a first or second down RB primarily. Like last year, he is more a starter in name only really.... just a piece. Stewart and Tolbert see a LOT of reps. Will maybe see Stewart and Williams on the field 10 times together....if that.

Regarding the schemes.....

1. We will see a ton of Cam running plays from the spread option. Little pistol mixed in but not much.

2. Definately not what we did last year. I am still unsure if Rivera wants to run primarily a JJ43 or his own mix. But we should blitz more this year than we have seen in a long time and don't expect much man coverage. But it will be aggressive.

Which of our DTs which start at the undertackle assuming Edwards starts at the nose.

Mcclain. I wouldn't outright assume edwards is the starter at NT, either. None of it matters, though. I expect a ton of rotation going on based on packages and lots of 3 man fronts, many of which include one of the bigger DEs in the middle.

Does Martin start at FS or will one of the new guys take over??

Anyone's game at this point. We have one of the best DB coaches in the league right now who is known for turning secondaries around. It's Rivera's guy. I expect the safeties and CBs to perform at much higher level. Martin probably just sucks but there is a chance that he's just the victim of poor coaching. We'll see. This is one of those position battles that will be interesting to see shape up.

Who is listed starter at tailback? Stewart or Williams??

Williams, but it won't matter. They'll both see the field pretty much an equal amount of time. Williams probably sees a little more but we'll also be seeing a ton of packages that they will both be on the field together, many with tolbert.

Regarding the schemes.....

Will we come out in the pistol formation and continue what we did last year or was that a function of doing the best we could with no off-season and installing on the run? In other words with more time to develop and implement the scheme will we try more traditional pocket passing, or continue the spread option scheme we ran last year which is what opponents will be preparing for. Or we will do something new like run a triple option or something else?? Isn't Chud a master innovator?? How many times will be put Tolbert, Williams, and Stewart in the backfield at the same time??

A lot of pistol. A lot of spread. A lot of new stuff that the league hasn't seen before (but that colleges have since that is the level that real innovating is going on and the pros are just catching up). As I said before, i think we'll see a lot of williams, stewart, and tolbert together. This is going to be an exhausting offense. One thing that we may see is a lot of hurry up offense similar to what cam had at Auburn.

Last year we ran mostly a cover 2 bland scheme on defense. Obviously this year will be different and with everyone coming back we should be better. But will be go with a more attacking style with mostly man coverage or a fire zone coverage? Will we blitz on just about every play or only occasionally. Will we use more misdirection with the line or mostly count on blitzes from the linebackers to get pressure?

We played it safe last year. This year they should have the guys they want healthy. Add to that a full offseason to learn and implement and rivera being involved and we should see a very disciplined but very aggressive defense with a lot more stunts and blitzes. I fully believe that we will see the turnaround in defense this year that we saw in the offense last year. With beason back and now kuechly we will have on the defense what was added with cam on offense.

First, as to Rayzor's point above, we should see less undisciplined play and the penalties that result. Cutting our penalties (both on O and D) by say 40% is realistic and would have a huge impact on field position.

Smith at FS. Neblett at DT. Hogan or Butler at #2. DWill the "starter" at RB.

On O, we should still see lots of pistol, lots of shotgun, but maybe a bit less of the option plays than we saw last year. Probably less contribution from the TE's and more from the WR, assuming we get someone to step up at 2 and 3. Very, very few designed runs for Cam (maybe a couple per game) and those almost exclusively on 3rd and 1 to 4 yards.

I frankly do not know enough about the nuances of the JJ defense to make any meaningful predictions as to approach. If we are relatively healthy, talent alone should result in a substantially better result.

To round it out, if we have anything less than a quantum leap in our ST's play, it should be considered a failure, given the emphasis we have given it this offseason.

Edit: In hindsight, a 40% reduction in penalties is too ambitious. Let's make that 25%.

As usual PhillyB is right on point... I simply ignore the idiots and read the guys who I've figured out already know what they are talking about. Responding to the foolishness only makes the trolls thrive more...

Plus this time of year is always more than a bit silly... not much to talk about other than sheer speculation...

...but posting boobs is never a bad thing. :)

edwards will start at NT, sherrod is still our safety, we will not run a wishbone offense often, stewart will get more carries then williams, the 2nd DT position will be a rotation of guys, Newton will break 4000 pass yards again, the panthers will finish 3rd in offence and top 15 in D, we will make the playoffs with a 10-6 record and win the Division. We will lose a nailbiter in the NFC championship game.
