Panthers: One Of The Least Popular Teams In The Nfl

Recommended Posts

The entire gulf coast; LA, MS, AL, parts of TX are huge Saints** fans. I grew up in MS, there were no other teams. That "Cha-ching" catchphrase was huge in the early 90s.

This is true right here. I spent 5 years in Gulfport, MS and they love the Saints* down there. The Saints* have a great fan base, definitely the best in the NFC South.

weird it's like we're some new expansion team without generations of support or something else mysterious

Couple that with the whole small market thing and it's pretty easy to explain. It will change in time due to Cam and hopefully winning, but I still doubt we will crack the Top 10 a decade from now.

As for our ranking, it's not surprising. A good portion of the state aren't Panther fans. We don't support our pro teams well, but we do support our college sports well.

In some years, with Cam at the helm, I expect us to move up a lil bit. We're still sorta new, so it's gonna take some time.

No one out side of N and S Carolina gives a poo about the Panthers. I think there's three of us out here in the bay area.

that isn't quite true, I've had a few talks with fans in Worcester, Massachusetts... though most of them I think only started following the team once we drafted Cam. I think that we were poised after 2003 to break into the national spotlight, then we... well yeah. :P

My beef with that list is not actually our placement, but I kinda think the Saints* are a little high based on how long the survey has gone on. I also would rather see the year-by-year trends, adjust for Superbowl wins in a given year (such that teams that remain good, popular, etc do receive a boost, but the surge from "oh yeah, which team won the superbowl? yeah I like them!" doesn't have such an influence), etc.

This is true. It's funny up north its the opposite. I met a few people in NY that have never been to a college football game.

Up north you see steeler, eagle, giants, and jets jerseys every where while it's UNC, State, Clemson, and South Carolina here.

College has been the king of the south forever.
