Panthers: One Of The Least Popular Teams In The Nfl

Recommended Posts

No offense but I'm not surprised the panthers are in the bottom 5. New franchise, no franchise QB until now, not a bad team at all but not particularly dominant. Panthers are doing real well in comparison to the Jags who came in at the same time.

Also I'm pretty sure the Steelers are the most popular team. Cowboys and Packers are up there definitely but I really have this gut feeling its the Steelers.

Also.. within the next ten years the Panther's popularity is going to sky rocket. We all know why.

Yeah, I think the Jags are a unanimous favorite as the least popular team in the NFL.

It's fair to criticize the survey. I would give more credence to a massive study based on internet hits, tv ratings, merchandise sales, and season ticket owners. Think about it. a survey of 1500 people....dating back to 1994....They called less than one person a day. Even if those numbers are wrong you would need data in the millions to make an educated guess.

Now to the topic. It would not surprise me if the Panthers were in fact in the bottom five. We sell out our stadium most years. Some games we need corporate help. We have largely been boring. 4 playoff appearances in 17 years. More important than any of that is the 17 years. We are a young franchise in a large but predominately rural region. You could hop in your car at BofA and be in the country within 30 minutes. Maybe 20 if its not game day. We don't have guys in their 80s that remember watching Red Grainge as children. We don't have fans in their 60s that loved Jim Brown. If you are over a certain age there is a good chance you supported the Redskins, Cowboys, or Giants in this area.

I wouldn't be the least bit concerned to see us in the bottom five. I know that number will go up as we build our legacy.

It's also worth noting the Panthers have on of the most valuable franchises in the NFL. We are 12th in the NFL and 17th in the entire world as of 2011. That is following the worst season in 10 years for the Panthers and before Cam started owning the national media. I'd love to see the numbers but I bet the Panthers are even higher if you factor in debt.

There is no way in hell New Orleans is #7 on a survey list dating back to '94.

The entire gulf coast; LA, MS, AL, parts of TX are huge Saints* fans. I grew up in MS, there were no other teams. That "Cha-ching" catchphrase was huge in the early 90s.
