Pantherspulse About Josh Norman

From watching the some footage of the OTA's he looks more than quick enough which was / is my biggest concern for Norman.

I think he will easily be our #2 CB with his combination of size, ball skills, and instincts.

Come on pre-season!!!

You have really high hopes for a 5th round pick out of a small school who you have never seen play a down.

Yeah, what they were saying about Norman was OK, but I was more interested in their takes on the WRs. It may come to Green v. Wallace for the last spot if we assume that Smith, LaFell, Gettis, Adams, and Pilares are shoe-ins to make the team. Moreover, it's not looking too good for Armanti if Chico said he has to forge his way as a WR. They were basically shooting the poo about Edwards being a back-up QB because of the emailer's question, but I really don't think that they believe this is a credible possibility. If that did happen, of course the next question (in my mind) is what happens to Pickles? I don't think that Edwards would get a real shot as a QB, and wouldn't hold my breath at him making the squad.

I go to Liberty and Coastal is our rival, so I got to see Norman play first hand.

First thing, he is much quicker than his 40 time.

Second thing, he struggles against tall fast receivers.

Third thing, he has good reactions and timing.

Fourth thing, he is a solid tackler

Fifth thing, Norman played so-so that game. Gave up 85 yards and one touchdown to Chris Summers who is a UDFA with the Bears.

Weaknesses

Norman has not faced top-level competition at Coastal Carolina and could have an adaption period early on. He will need to contribute on special teams to stick, which he hasn't done much at Coastal. He is taller and can struggle with some hip/transitional movements moving to his left, but it's not a major concern and surely will be part of the adaptation process.

That is what NFL.com has said about the weaknesses of Norman. reading that, I am able to conclude that if he shows up to OTA's as well as minicamp and takes coaching like he is suppose to, he can turn those weaknesses into strengths by the time of the first preseason game. I really like this guy and I feel like he can really come in and command that #2 spot if Hogan or Butler does not show up. I do not want to see another season of Munnerlyn lined up in the #2 position.

Strengths

Norman can play man and zone equally well and was a physical presence on the outside of the defense at Coastal Carolina. He understands when to take risks and when to play back, and he is physical when he makes his decision to come up. He supports the run well and is a reliable tackler. He works well to feel with his hands to stay on a receiver in-phase, and has the hip mobility to move with his man all over the field.

He has the capability to be a #2 corner his rookie season much like Amini Silatolu has the ability to start at Guard.

For good reason. He performed great at the level he played. Also, Mayock fell in love with him after the senior bowl IIRC and you should check out his combine performance, specifically the agility and movement drills. He is much quicker than his 40 time from the combine, he's long, rangy, and has great ball skills.

He will be a starter at some point.

Yes because no player drafted outside the 1st and 2nd round has ever panned out.

Damn why didnt we just trade all our late picks away!
