Jon Beason Responds To Alex Smith Comments

Should we go back to 2009 then? So what you are saying is Beason hasn't played middle linebacker in over two seasons but he's still better that Fletcher?

Oh and like the great Sam Mills, Fletcher is an undersized inside linebacker playing in the 3 - 4 which is not conducive to his skill set. Only Sam played in this system most of his career while London just recently made the jump. Even after making the switch at an advanced age. (NFL wise) Fletcher still excels at his position. At or near the top in tackles year in year out.

I would say Beason was a superior inside linebacker. I have no idea if he still is; the injury means I can't really say for certain he is.

Fletcher is a great player, so is Beason. Saying Beason was better doesn't mean Fletcher was a bad player.

true enough, but I don't think Fletcher in his prime is better than Beason in his - we won't agree and we both are likely bias in this regard. Who knows what the future holds at this point, so we'll see how Beason recovers.

NFL live is going to discuss Alex Smith's comments towards Newton, and Beason's comments towards Smith, coming up on ESPN.

Actually, they said they would start things with Beason at MLB and Luke a WLB. They said Luke will be asked to learn both and play both....and so would Beason.

Uh what? Panthers have always placed an emphasis on the LBs being able to play all 3 spots.

no, you didn't. you spouted some bs about how respected london fletcher is throughout the league. that's nice and all but not relevant. fletcher is a good player and has been for a long time but don't sell beason short by saying he's "maybe a top 10 mlb" and behind old man fletcher on your "unbiased" list.

To date, Beason and Fletcher have been comparable players. Beason hasn't been in a different tier.

Rivera has already addressed Luke and Beason will both be asked to play WLB and MLB.

That is obviously being done bc Rivera doesn't know yet where they will ultimately end up in his D. Other LBs may know other spots in case of injury.....with Beason and Luke Rivera is going to sort out where they fit
