Assault Rifle Newb

Once upon a time, I owned a Ruger Ranch rifle AKA Mini 14. I put a folding "glass" stock on it. It was a great rifle, never had a problem with it.

At the same time, I owned a Colt AR-15. (semi auto version of the M-16)

Never had one jam and both were very accurate. (I referred the Colt, mostly because of it's looks. But with the folding stock the Mini-14 looked menacing.)

I haven't kept up with what you can buy and what you can't buy these days. I do know that Carolina Sporting Arms on South Blvd or Hyatt Gun Shop on Wilkinson are both great to deal with here in Charlotte.

Wal-Mart has a Sig M400 around 8-900ish http://www.sigsauer....ifles-m400.aspx

If you enter Texas in a pick-up and don't have a rifle in your back window. The State Patrol will pull you over and give you one! :D

"Why'd you pull me over officer?"

"Son, you're driving a pick-up."

"Yes sir."

"In Texas, only 2 things are ever in a pick-up without a rifle in the back window. Steers and Queers. Now which one are you?"

"Moo?"

"I'll go get you a rifle and window hangers."

Colt AR's are very, very nice, but out of my price range. I was told the S&W M&P are the best sub $1200 AR's if I go that route. I'll probably build my own though. He said I can build one of equal quality for $3-400 less.

I built my first one last year.

Bad ass gun.

I went with a 20 inch bull barrel for some added accuracy. Building another one this year.

I'm going with a 16" barrel. I have a bolt action. 223 & .30-06 for long range.
