Alex Smith Had Some Choice Words About Mr. Newton.

Recommended Posts

Nope, you just say it every chance you get.

He makes mistakes. He needs to improve. You don't care for him. We get it.

By year 3, we will know what we have in Newton, a great athlete who can't be a great QB or a great athlete who becomes a great QB.

Until then no need to take up for a bust #1 draft choice bad mouthing the home town team and a kid who was rookie of the year. Give this team a decent special teams and defense and the record would have been different.

It's one thing if it is said by Tom Brady. It's another thing being said by Alex Smith; but, then again, no one knows losing like Smith.

I'll take the things said about Newton by the QBs that have worn super bowl rings (Rodgers and Brees).

1) What, the truth? I sure do.

2) Never said i didn't care for him and you will never find where i did. I'm just not ready to call him the greatest of all time based on a handful of stats. He's not even the greatest Panther yet. Quarterback for that matter. And i don't act like he will change the game of football. I've seen so called "game changers" before. Turns out, they didn't change the game. You know what changes the game? Guys on the rules committee.

3) You can say that about any player.

4) Smith is not a bust. I don't know of too many busts that lead their team to an NFCCG. He maybe a mid tier quarterback at best, but not a bust. The rest of your comment is speculative, no way of knowing.

5) He's one of 32 starting quaterbacks in the league so he is entitled to his opinion.

6) I'll take all and judge for myself.

Tom Brady was passing 40-60 times a game and made it to the SB last year...

P.S. it's Drew, not Dru.

Yeah, there are various ways to succeed in the NFL. Dru Brees and Tom Brady pass for many yards and touchdowns and Cam has been following that mold lately, as Daunte Culpepper did before him.

The NFL will also always have a place for QBs like Joe Flacco and Alex Smith, though, and Smith's argument is still valid. Stats are meaningless and the only thing that matters is wins and losses.

Nowhere did he say he was a better quarterback than Cam Newton.

I'll never understand why this place lets opposing team fans shout down Panthers fans and squash threads.

All people have to do is put those idiots on ignore and this is all they will see...

He didn't say it, he just implied it Strongly!

When a QB throws for over 300 yards, the likelihood his team will win is about 53% so you could say he does have a point there. Watching both of their playoff games last year, AS does need to get a lot better if he want's his team to win a superbowl. He was able to get big plays to Vernon Davis but that man could not sustain offense for his team in either game. Alex was a major factor why they couldn't beat the Giants in the NFCC. Fuger was 1 for 12-15 on 3rd down in that game. Sustaining offense does help your team and he hasn't shown that he's capable of doing that in his NFL career. He has no excuses this year, Randy Moss, Mario Manningham, A top 3 TE in the game and a pretty darn good running attack. Excuse time is over, put up or shut up. .

Cam is not the reason why the Panthers lost as much as they did, and Alex Smith ain't the reason why the 49ers won as much as they did. On top of having the best defense in the league, the 49ers had a great running game and special teams that constantly gave them excellent field position (for field goals, LOL)

The Golden Calf of Bristol could have led last year's 49ers to 13-3. Hell, maybe even better

Everybody on the 49er forum seems to think Cam was given a golden situation & that Alex would have put up better numbers his rookie year if given the same situation. They said all Cam's yardage & td's came from blow out garbage time.

I thought we had a 4th quarter lead in 14 or 15 games?

    • Man whether it's the Panthers or the Hornets it's crazy how many foolish talking heads there are in the local media. I just unsubscribed from locked on Hornets. Doug Branson with his cheesy mustache is an absolute clown especially when his partner isn't on. Talking about trading LaMelo because he can't win basketball games by himself with no semblance whatsoever of a legitimate Center. These YouTube personalities will say anything for a damn click.
    • I’m hoping for that exact same scenario, two seconds would be big for us. I’d hope for 3 impact players. A WR/DL/DE that can contribute like this current class would be key to our rebuild.
    • When I look at what I can find, a carryover problem from last season is our receivers are still unable to get enough separation on a consistent basis. Canales is certainly better at scheming them open, like how he sneaked out Thielen for a big play. But then he's also having Thielen running routes he frankly shouldn't be doing anymore. I feel part of the RZ issues is not really having anyone - after trading Diontae - who can make those quick cuts on a short field to give whoever is under center a wider window to throw. We also only have one guy with blazing speed in Thompkins and from what I could see, he's really used more to draw away coverage. I bring this all up because what Canales needs for sustained success - other than QB - is the other receiver pieces we'll be getting in the offseason.  Otherwise, I have to say that Canales isn't as afraid to be aggressive offensively. As others mentioned, still doesn't run the ball enough at times. Finally, I still feel his playcalls still doesn't line up with his mantra of getting rid of the ball within x amount of seconds. Maybe I count too slow. Oh, and I'm glad Canales first game after a bye looked good. I feared he'd be like Ron Rivera where we would fall flat on our faces.
