Alex Smith Had Some Choice Words About Mr. Newton.

Recommended Posts

I'm afraid to point out that in the playoffs when his defense failed him, he was on point in the win over the Saints*.

Also afraid to point out that he's had something like 8 OCs in 7 seasons.

Also afraid to point out that his best receiver is a tight end then running back.

All that said, Cam is light years better than Smith but Smith did what was asked of him to win games, which was not turn the ball over, something Cam did often.

Alex Smith is an extremely poor man's Chad Pennington. Already with 2 receivers on the team that were drafted in the top 10, now he has one of the all time greats (Moss), the guy who made the biggest catch in the superbowl last year (Manningham), and another first round receiver from this year's draft (Jenkins). Do these weapons change his status as a game manager who the team would love to replace at a moment's notice? Nope.

What's sad though is that we were actually +1 in the turnover margin as where the Saints* were actually -3. To me this doesn't indicate poor quarterback play.

It indicates the inability of the Panthers offense and defense to close out the game.

The Saints* were minus fricken three in the turnover margin yet they still had somewhat of a successful season, and why was this? Well I think it comes down to both the offense and defense performing in the fourth quarter.

I've noticed how sensitive football fans in general are. You can confirm this by looking at comments after articles on nfl.com or whatever(or this thread for that matter), that if their favorite team players aren't recognized or slighted on, they can show how big and smelly their manginas really are. Example, a guy did an article on best duo's, just look at the comments. Maybe this just represents internet geeks, but fans generally don't mirror the toughness of this sport.

Totally different situations. Cam was asked to win games. Alex was asked not to win them. Turnovers will happen when a QB has to do more. Alex's defense forced 5 turnovers against the Saints**, they shouldn't have even needed those heroics if Smith had just played moderately well the entire game instead of saving it for the last two drives.

As for ball security:

Alex Smith's rookie stats:

1 TD, 11 INTs (9 games, 7 starts), 11 fumbles (3 lost) 50% completions

Cam ran the ball 90 more times than Smith in their rookie years and still fumbled half as much in 9 more games.

Alex Smith has one more winning season under his belt than Newton does.

Pssssst... He kinda has a point

Yeah, but why hasn't he been saying that since he was taken #1 overall? Because he's an average NFL quarterback that will never win a Super Bowl.

What, last year was the kid's first winning season? In what....7 seasons?!?!

I'm afraid to point out his "failing defense" forced 5 turnovers, had 3 sacks, and held the Saints* to 37 rushing yards for the game.

No one wants to give the kid a little consideration for all of his OC failures?

We've seen what a good OC can do, yet we fail to recognize what a bad one can do? We as Carolina fans should know this first hand.

I understand you take it as a slight to Cam and that will block all rational thoughts but I'm pleading with you.

To the clown that said he will never win a SuperBowl, be careful.

He can thank Mr. Williams for that.

They also gave up 32 points, 18 in the fourth quarter.

Smith had 299 yards and 3 TDs and another one rushing (4 total) while his defense gave up over 450 yards to Breesus.

Smith built a 17-0 lead before his defense crumbled again and again.

Just because Smith wasn't asked to win games in the regular season doesn't mean he was incapable.

i agree with the OC thing. it's amazing to me that he actually survived to this point considering he was roundly considered a massive bust and lost cause.

but really does he already deserve the moniker of "gritty gamer who just wins" after one season? i mean he didn't even have a winning record as a starter until the playoffs.
